Philips DVP5960 and URC7556 Problem

Philips DVP5960 and URC7556 Problem
I have a Philips DVP5960 DVD player and a URC7556. I have downloaded several .rmdu files from the Files Section and can get none of them to work with my URC.
I have posted in the diagnosis area a zip https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=8693 which contains:
(1) a .rmdu downloaded from the Files Section. This file was designed for my DVD player but for an RS15-2104 remote.
(2) a .IR file I created from this .rmdu file
(3) a .IR file which actually works with the Philips DVDP. This file was created by adding the code 0539 manually to my URC.
I have tried adding some learned functions to the working file but because of the "Philips RC6 Toggle" they don't work properly. Someone on the Forum said that a proper .rmdu file would handle the Philips toggle okay, but my attempts to create my own .rmdu file have failed.
Can anyone tell me why I can't get file (1) above to work with my remote.
Thanks.

You did something wrong in RM. You either selected the wrong remote, or you have bad versions of the RDF or something, because you've added a protocol upgrade (which isn't needed) that calls for 4 bytes of fixed data, but the device upgrade that you provided only uses 2 bytes of fixed data.
So, I re-added the upgrade properly here, so see if this works:

The built in 0058:2 uses 4 digits of fixed data. You've also added a 0058 protocol id, which looks to be the same as the one that is built in.
What I am seeing however is invalid setup codes. SOME remotes check to see if all the setup codes are valid when you start, and if they are not, it does a 980 reset. I bet if you download this from the remote you won't see your setup code on the General tab.
I also bet this was started with a file new instead of a download, and if we don't have the RDF perfect other things can go wrong too.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

Thanks Rob, your file works fine for me. The only thing I can think that I did wrong was to use a URC7555 RDF instead of a URC7556 one. This hasn't caused me problems in the past.
Thanks also to vickyg2003 and mdavej. I shall continue to play around to see if I can find out what I did wrong. "Allow RDF Selection" was unchecked - I shall make sure it's checked in future.

That's a good point, so I just reformatted the file that I created so that it's based on the working file that Paul posted.vickyg2003 wrote:I also bet this was started with a file new instead of a download, and if we don't have the RDF perfect other things can go wrong too.

I have added the correct RDF and map files. My IR file still does not work. I noticed that Rob's file had no protocol entries whereas the RMDU file produces an upgrade protocol for me to enter into IR.
My latest non working IR file is here at https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=8695
Would appreciate any further thoughts.

What remote do you have selected in RM? The RMDU file that you posted shows the 15-2104 selected, whereas you have a URC-7556.Paul419 wrote:I noticed that Rob's file had no protocol entries whereas the RMDU file produces an upgrade protocol for me to enter into IR.
When I open the RMDU file in RM and select your remote, there isn't a protocol upgrade offered because it's already in your remote. Proof of this is the fact that your remote has DVD/0539 factory installed.
Have you tried my IR file to see if it works?

I have "URC-7556 Digital 5" selected in RM and when I go to the output page of RM both the Device Upgrade Code box and the Upgrade Protocol Code boxes are filled with data.
I did try your IR file and it works fine. However, I would really like a working .rmdu file so that hopefully I can get round the Philips RC6 toggle problem when I use the learning facility.
I have just added the 7556 RDF file so I'm sure it's the correct one. I can't see anything suspicious in the rmaster.err file. Are you sure RM is pointing to the right RDF file (Options - Folders)? Maybe you have different ones in different places. The issue is with RM, not IR, so go ahead and post your RM file. Do you see anything suspicious in your rmaster.err file?

You still are doing something wrong in RM.Paul419 wrote:mdavej wrote:I have just added the 7556 RDF file so I'm sure it's the correct one. Most likely its the location of your RDF file.
Which VERSION of RM are you using. We are using 1.98 or 1.99, where are you?
When we open your upgrade, change it to your remote, we see
the fixed data change to 95, 30, 55, 65
We seeing exactly what Rob posted. The one that you copied into IR has different fixed data.

I have checked RM and IR. They are both looking at the same RDF which is 10751075(URC-7556 Digital 5).rdfmdavej wrote:In IR, go to File - Set Directory - RDF Path. Then in RM, go to Options - Folders - RDF Folder. Make sure the one in RM is the same as the one in IR.
If that's not it, then you may have picked the wrong remote by mistake.
I am using RM 1.99a. When I open the rmdu file the fixed data on the setup page shows 80 04.vickyg2003 wrote:Which VERSION of RM are you using. We are using 1.98 or 1.99, where are you?

I think what Rob said earlier about DVD/0539 being factory installed may be significant. A year or so ago I tried to create an IR file from a variety of downloaded Sky UK rmdu files. I couldn't get any of them to work, so I gave up in the end. Sky UK is also factory installed in my remote.
Is there any way to fool the remote into thinking that I'm trying to install a non-factory-installed update?

Well yeah, we all see 80 04, BUT THAT IS FOR ANOTHER REMOTE.Paul419 wrote:I am using RM 1.99a. When I open the rmdu file the fixed data on the setup page shows 80 04.vickyg2003 wrote:Which VERSION of RM are you using. We are using 1.98 or 1.99, where are you?

On the second line of the screen you'll see the remote list. You must select YOUR REMOTE from the list. When you change it, the fixed data will change to 95, 30, 55, 65. There will be no Protocol Required.

Each time one opens a rmdu or KM file in RM, the remote type is reset to the type used when the rmdu file was written.
So each time you open a rmdu file, it is necessary to change the remote type (on the Setup tab, second line) to the desired remote type.
So open the DVP-5060 rmdu file, and then change the remote type to 7556. Now the fixed data should be correct, as listed by Vicky.
When you save the rmdu file, with 7556 selected as the remote type, then that new rmdu file will have 7556 as the default remote type.
