JP1 Remotes

Hi,

I'd like to capture IR signals and for today, I see there are IR Scope (which works only with IR Widget) and Capture IR (LPT/Centronix only?)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but IR Scope is just older and If I want to capture using COM/USB interface, I should use IR Scope?

Btw, If I have a remote that doesn't have it's codes dumped anywhere, the procedure should be:

Capture with IR Scope -> prepare with RM -> Flash with IR.exe ?

I have RCA RCRP05B. It has learning but I believe IR Scope is much more convinient than learning my remote, than dumping codes from it with IR, preparing them (RM?) and flashing again with IR.exe.

I think there is a misprint somewhere in this. You have called both programs by the same name, IR Scope. You must surely mean something different for the LPT/Centronix program. The program actually called IR Scope does work only with the IR Widget.

Capturing to a remote works just fine, try it.

I have problems with the remote to remote learning process, because
1) I can't think sideways
2) I can't remember where I put things on the remote.
3) I tend to move something causeing bad learns that I have to go back and capture.

But lots of other people find the process easy enough.

The widget is really a lot faster, and easier and captures difficult to learn signals with ease, but for the most part a remote with cable works just fine.

Yeah, the centronix program I thought about is Capture IR. I've found some receiver diode + centronix. I've just finished ironing whole three wires and I'm about to check if it's working

Btw. does IR Scope has lot of advantages versus Capture IR ? I don't know if I should make IR Widget or just stay with centronix IR Probe it turns out to be working with diode I've used.

Update, the IR Probe does work
It recognizes all my remotes except one ("Unknown Protocol"). It's Pace SAT with PVR if it does matter. I remember my RCA could learn from it.
What should I do next in case of unknown protocol detected by Capture IR ?

The Pace box probably uses XMP, they often do. XMP signals can't be reliably learned to a remote, but are decoded easily with IRScope.

Both IRScope and Capture IR use decodeIR. It could be that you have an old version of decodeIR, or it could be that CaptureIR doesn't have all the logic necessary to get the information out of decodeIR.

I have never used CaptureIR, but perhaps you could take the timing data and paste it into IRScope to give you the decode.

I learned my RCA with this Pace box remote, downloaded it via IR and it informed me this is Canal Sat protocol which makes sense as it's Canal+ branded SAT receiver made by Pace.
I think I'll stick to obtaining codes by learning my remote and downloading it to PC to further processing. Now when I have JP cable, it turns out to be more convenient than I thought.

Now I only need info/tutorials on what every function of RM and IR does

New features have been added to all the tools since the guides were written but it really makes sense to start at the beginning and then get to the fancy stuff and the updated instructions Vicky's doing.

When you installed RM, there was a link to the help files I think, or at least some sort of instructions. Just about every function is described there.

I knew soldering would be a better word, but have mercy, it was almost 104 F in the shade when I was writing that

Ok, I've pasted learned codes to RM, assigned them, uploaded both device and protocol upgrades to remote and it doesn;t seem to be working.
I've attached:

PACE-learned.ir - learned codes

Typo. When transferring the data from the learns into the RDMU you didn't transfer the device number correctly.

Leaned Device is 11 but you typed 22.

Now I must gain knowledge in macros as I don't see any point in using keymoves (example with moving away power button in help PDF doesn't speak to me )

Then I need to do a better job of explaining, because keymoves are an extremely powerful tool in these remotes.

Keymoves can be used to add additional functions to a setup code. If you wanted the eject function for your DVD player on your remote. They can be used to block out codes from the underlying setup. They can be used to simulate punch through, like PIP punch through. We use keymoves all the time to help non-jp1 users, but if you look at anybodys advanced IR files, they'll be loaded with keymoves.


Besides that keymoves are the basis for all of our special protocols.

Keymoves are really powerful once you get the hang of them.
