The RCA RCRP05B can be found many places online, including Amazon, Newegg, eCost, SolidSignal and MCM Electronics.

Some Sears have them for $15, about the same price as many places online.

Silver OFA version (OARP05S) is available on Amazon.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll walk over tomorrow and see if I can pick one up. That remote is different enough that I would like to see if it would be workable out of the box, or maybe I could collaborate with Bill on the extender.

They still have them on sale for $15. I picked one up tonight.

What I like about it is the colored a,b,c,d buttons, the pg up pg down buttons, the live TV button, skip back button, and day + day - buttons. These all make it an easier replacement for my cable DVR remote.

They are now $8.50 each at my Walgreens.

Check around/behind the photo counter if you don't find them elsewhere.

Walked out with two for $18.03 after tax

If you keep them sealed you can still return within 30 days for cash back.

Ugh! At that price I have to buy some even though I have no need for one what-so-ever.

Updated title. Now down to $4.

Are people still finding these in the stores? I went by my local Walgreens yesterday and they didn't have it.

When I saw this post, I did a circle of all the Walgreens around my house, and didn't find any. However yesterday I was grocery shopping at Meijer's, and I wandered into the electronics section and saw them for $12.95 and has two posts full of the remotes. This is better than the $15 that I purchased my first one for. Also, they no longer offer these on line at meijers, so I think they maybe clearing them out as well.

Looks like this deal is dead. My walgreens now has a ton of them again. The display says "New Item: $19.95". Why they practically gave them away on clearance then restocked as if they never existed, I'll never know.

Speculation:
Stores frequently offer clearance prices on an item that is defective and which will be replaced by a similar item, even if the packging/model number doesn't change. People who pay less than $9 for a remote are less likely to return it.

We know that the instruction sheet that has been shipped (at least in the past) with RCRP05B contained an error on how to set up VPT. I expect that folks who buy a 5 device remote probably use a receiver for sound from their TVs, and so it may be that there were returns from unhappy customers, because VPT didn't work for them.

Perhaps it is as simple as a new instruction sheet.

Locally, BestBuy stores didn't have stock for these remotes one month ago; now they do.

Saw this remote a few more places recently. Since this in one of the few JP1 remotes you can walk into a store and buy, I thought I'd bump the thread.
