JP1 Remotes

I'm finally working on the 10820n extender and should be ready for testers soon.

Hello vickyg2003. I am new to JP1. My friend got me into it, but when I bought my 8820 remotes from Amazon, they were the N and not the B00 revs. I am excited to hear you are working on an extender. My remotes are just sitting unused at this point. If there is anything that I can do to help test, please let me know.

Some friend! This is an addictive hobby. If you get in too deep you can't get out. Actually I'm jealous, I'd love to have a friend take an interest, but they all think I'm nuts when I get on this topic.

I have a 10820N that I could use for testing. I use
With the 10820N I don’t need device multiplexer because I only have seven devices in my living room to control.

I hear you. If the topic of remotes ever comes up, I start raving about all the things I can do with my remote and how cool the original hacking was and before I even get rolling good, I see their eyes glaze over. I realize I am loosing them and 20 or 25 minutes later, I finally give up and shut up.

I can't even get past 5 minutes.

I've had a dream for a while now. I want to do JP1-volunteer-work with people with disabilities. I can customize the heck out of a remote to deal with mobility issues, and I've got boxes full of remotes that I am willing to give away, but trying to explain what I can do, to try and get my foot in the door has been impossible. (But just think of the captive audiance I'd have if I ever get past that first hurdle. )

DELAY

I had this pretty much ready for testing and then something came up as to how to make this a much better extender by changing the way home theater selection works. So I'm going to recode the core of the extender and add 5 km_buckets,redo the RDF, revamp the documentaion (yuck) .....

These are going to be major changes, and I don't have a good handle on how much time this is going to take, I'd like to have something out there for testing April 24th, but it may be closer to May 1.

I just don't want to wear out my testers with something that is not 'next gen' enough to satisfy me.

I thought I was going to get this out today, but bench testing found another show-stopping elusive error, so you guys are off the hook until next weekend.

No problem Vicky keep up the excellent work I should have one of these remotes by next weekend so I can do some testing. I am also really interested in learning how to write an extender for the RCA remote. Where should I start I have no programming experience but with a push in the right direction I am sure I could do it.. also if don't mind me asking what are the spec of the PC you are using? I remember reading in the forums some where that is was really slow opening excel files I might be able to help you out with a better PC.

Extender writing is a real challenge, even for the experienced programmer. The more programming you've done, the better. But that doesn't mean its impossible for a beginner, because I overcame lack of experiece in order to extend my remotes. If you want to learn how to write extenders, you should start reading up on the Samsung assembly language, and then pull out the 15-1994 extender source and try your best to understand what is going on with the registers. Unclemiltie and I both based our extenders on the 15-1994, although I think we are both looking at the 8900 for a new way to handle home theater.

my old RS-1994 finally died. I had it working (even with multiple ReplayTVs) for many years with tools from this forum (without quite understanding everything I did). I think I did some initial KeyMaster work and then tweaked things with IR. I now have URC8820N and the JP1.x USB/Serial connector. From IR, the communication check is okay. I have downloaded
the appropriate (I think) RDFs and Maps, but I must be missing something since an IR download from remote doesn't show up anything but raw data. Am I out of luck since I have the "N" model? Thank you.

There have been a lot of RDFs added since the last RDF zip file was created. We have a new librarian now who is in the process of building a new master RDF zip file, but in the meantime you will need to download the RDF for your remote from here:
