Vizio VW42L inputs - extended codes

1. Device: Vizio VW42L
2. Type of device: LCD TV
3. Year: 2008
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: RCA RCRP05B
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? No
6. Still have original remote? No
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
9. Partially working setup code? Yes
10. Learning remote question? No
Thanks to earlier help from the wonderful experts on this forum I have got my RCA RCP05B remote to where I can control all my devices. I am now at the point where I want to program macros and my question is whether there are extended codes for the Vizio VW42L LCD TV which will allow me to jump directly to an Input (TV/AV1/AV2/RGB/HDMI1/HDMI2 etc.) of choice? (I already have extended codes for Inputs on my Sony receiver thanks to this forum).
Currently I have to use multiple hits on the 'Input' button on the RCA remote to scroll to the input of choice which makes Macro programming impossible if Input switching on the TV is involved as there is no common Input starting point when changing devices. By using extended codes for the Vizio's Inputs I hope to be able to jump to an input of choice, regardless of the previous Input setting.
Thank you.

Hi Thomas,
for #9 we wanted the setup code. If the setup code TV/1758, then the EFC's would for inputs would be
Input Toggle 00090
TV 00110
Component 00231
HDMI 00174
It sounds like you are geting your remote pretty customized even without the cable.

Vicky - my apologies for overlooking that. Yes, the code for the Vizio is 1758.
I tested what you provided and they work!
Could you please expand your reply to include RGB and HDMI2 (your HDMI code gets HDMI1). I use HDMI1, HDMI2 and RGB, the latter for my MacMini.
Yes, I am doing fine without the programming cable; I am a Mac only household and suspect that the related Applications are Windows only, no?
Once I have these extended Vizio codes I anticipate that I will be able to emulate the 'activity based' approach adopted by the Harmony range of remotes, without the cost, by simply creating Macros and, yes, using the shift-Macro idea you suggested in your earlier assistance, which is much appreciated. I will end up with three Macros - HDMI1 (DVD, BluRay and Netflix streaming through that Insignia player), HDMI2 (TV/Uverse DVR) and RGB (MacMini for web surfing etc.)!
Thanks,
Thomas

RGB = EFC 00253
I don't see an HDMI2 anywhere in the files, and there's no obvious (to me) logic or pattern to the assignment of codes, so I'm not sure what to recommend that you try, but, you could create a macro using HDMI1, Input to get you to HDMI2, could you not?

You know, you can do some of this yourself. At RemoteCentral, click on Search, and try searching in the Forums. Just search on Vizio Discrete.
All of the known Vizo discrete codes are listed in the first suggested thread, and the EFCs (suitable for use with 1758) are listed on page 2.
And if you want to "cheat", here's

Capn - Thanks for the RGB EFC - that works!
I was wrong on EFC 0174 for HDMI. Each successive input of 0174 alternates between HDMI1 and HDMI2, which makes programming tricky.
Likewise, EFC 00231 toggles between Component1 and Component2.
The problem is the starting point. If I last used HDMI1 and power down, then seek to use HDMI1 again, the Macro will toggle to HDMI2 as it last toggled to HDMI1.
However, it occurs to me I can always start all Macros at RGB EFC 00253 (there is only one RGB Input) then use down arrow key presses to get to HDMI1 or HDMI2. Given the staring point on the Input menu on the Vizio will now always be RGB, the number of down arrows to HDMI1 or HDNMI2 will always be the same.
I'll try that and report back. My little boy is only eight years old, loves to alternate between inputs but memorizing the need to change both Audio and data inouts is a little beyond him, hence the push to get all of this onto a few macro keys.
Many thanks for your help.
Thomas

3FG -
Thanks for that link.
Unfortunately I use a Mac (OS X only) and cannot use the Hex->EFC application I suspect is required to make EFCs from those Hex strings.

Um, I've always suspected that Mac users..,. nah, never mind.
But do read the second paragraph of my post again.

Tomas,
3FG is subscribing to the theory that "If you GIVE a man a fish, he will eat for one day, but if you TEACH a man to fish, he will eat forever."
I agree with that philosophy, but..
Power On 087
Power Off 216
HDMI 1 193
HDMI 2 191
HDMI 3 195
HDMI 4 188
HDMI 5 192
HDMI 6 190
HDMI 7 194
HDMI 8 061
Component 1 137
Component 2 135
Component 3 139
Component 4 132
AV 1 225
AV 2 223
AV 3 227
AV 4 220
Media 141
RGB 253
Mute On 213
Mute Off 217
Enjoy your fish!

3FG - 'Tis true, we Mac users are simple folks!
I checked page two of your link which suggests that HDMI1 is 00193 and HDMI2 is 00191, but neither works.
However, I will try the RGB reference starting point approach with down arrow presses in the Macros and will report back.

It could simply be that your particular model does not have direct input control. but only the "type toggle" that you have discovered.

Capn - It's tough to fish without a pole, aka a PC! And you are right, it looks like I can only toggle between Component and HDMI inputs using the related EFCs provided above by Vicki.
I tested my approach by defaulting to RGB using EFC 00253 and then invoking the Input menu with EFC 00090 (thanks, Vicky!) for one down arrow (HDMI1) or two down arrows (HDMI2), respectively, and it works splendidly.
Thanks to everyone for your help.

I think the saying goes "give a man a fish and he eats for one day; teach a man to fish and he'll spend all day in a boat drinking beer."
Anyway, RemoteMaster is written in Java and runs on a Mac. IR.exe is a Windows program, but RemoteMaster has a similar capability called RMIR. Having a Mac won't stop you from any aspect of of the JP1 world.

Thanks 3FG - good to know. The reason I asked the basic questions here is that I did not know this could be done on a Mac.
And, as you probably know, we Mac types drink white wine and fish with a credit card ....
Best,
Thomas
