10820 Extender Version

I want to assign a macro to a device key. From what I read, that requires an extender. I have an URC 10820.

I downloaded the file that was in extender portion of files section. I opened the readme file to start reading up on how to use it and see what the pluses and minuses were. At the very top is - Warning: this is a beta version of the 8820 extender, it is subject to change. Use at your own risk.

Is there a different version that I should have downloaded?

Hi Tanker, the documentation probably says beta, I hate doing the documentation part of extenders.

I'm planning on working on the 10820 extender soon as there are some problems.

I hope to be able to fix the three known problems, AUX2, broken Pause, and add FAV support and port the extender to 10820n as well. I hope to have these extenders ready at the end of the month, as long as my real life doesn't intrude.

In the meantime,

use the Pause protocol that RM or KM generates,
Patch the location ECDB from 09 to 0A to enable Aux2
Assign a macro to FAV key to keep it from crashing the extender.

Trust me I understand the dislike of writing documentation.

You do not need an extender to simply put a macro on the device keys on the 10820, its regular feature of the remote.

I should have been more precise.

My macros use multiple phantom keys. (While reading the doco on extender, I am also working on reassigning all the phanton keys and seeing if I can then create a device macro.)

I can't use Keymover as it doesn't allow device keys. When I tried to have the device key run the keys with macros, it fails. From the doco I have read possibly I am ending up with embedded macros that requires an extender.

Just seemed like the extender might be my answer.

You can't nest macros without an extender, but you can certainly include phantom keys in a macro without an extender, because the remote can't tell the difference between phantom keys and regular keys.

The better half doesn't like the way I set up her new remote.

I could not figure out how to use the native macro capability on the 10820 and select phantom keys that I created. I was going to assign the functions I used phantom keys for to physical keys on an unused device but when I mapped out the resulting macro I ended up with more than 20 steps which doco says is the limit. I am still working to come up with a macro that fits limits.

You can't program phantom keys into macros if you're programming the macro using the remote rather than using IR.exe because the buttons don't exist, but if you're programming the macros using IR.exe, phantoms are no different than physical buttons.
