URC 7541 will not connect to PC

Hi,

Wondered if anyone else has had this problem. I have a JP1 lead that I know is OK because I have several JP1 remotes with male connectors that communicate fine with the pc.

I recently got a URC 7541 to help my Dad out with a lost remote. This remote has holes not a male JP1 connector, no problem I though my JP1 lead came with one of those little block things with 6 long pins one side and six short ones the other - is this a pogo adaptor ?

Tried the adaptor and the JP1 lead in all four possible orientations (the 2 ways the JP1 can connect and with the long pins and then the short pins in the holes in the remote
pcb).

In all cases IR gives the 'please connect remote' message.

I Know the remote is OK because I get a light when I press a button.

Am I doing something silly ?

Many thanks

Kdp

This is what a pogo adapter looks like. The pins on the side going down into the remote are telescoping, since stiff pins make it difficult to get a good connection on all 6 simultaneously. I believe that you have a 6-pin HEADER with stiff pins, which you would need to solder into place to ensure effective connections in the remote.

A bigger problem is that the 7541 does not ship with a pre-installed EEPROM, so even if you made good contact using the 6-pin header, IR.exe has nothing to "talk" to. You would have to open up the remote and solder in an EEPROM as well as that 6-pin header.

Firstly many thanks Capn, for the prompt and helpful reply, and image.

Its my error, I checked the remotes spread sheet to check it had a Jp1, but did not check the eprom bit - wiser next time.

Luckly I ony paid £2.75 on ebay, so its a cheap lesson.

Thanks again
