JP1 Remotes

With the 8910 and similar remotes almost impossible to find, I'll probably eventually replace mine when it starts acting up, with a 10820.

Does the 10820 have an extender? I don't see any listed in the file section. If it shares one with another remote, the description needs to be updated to add it.

Has anyone moved from an 8910 to a 10820? My setup isn't too complicated (customized Sony TV/Receiver/DVD layouts, some LKP's on device keys, a DSM or two.) I put a copy here for review:

I haven't even bought a replacement remote, yet. I just want to know what I'm getting into. I do have a JP1.x cable that works (I have a Comcast remote which I don't really use, but experimented with.)

The URC-10820, URC-8820, and URC-6820 share a common extender.

I ported from 8910 to 8820 (similar to 10820). Extender works well but is different to that of 8910. Took the opportunity to start from scratch and found it relatively easy to open saved RM 8910 upgrades and convert for 8820. Then rebuilt the macros in IR and added a few new LKP's and DKP's. Better button layout than 8910 IMHO, especially for PVR.

Some of the notes might be out of date but this IR file might give you ideas. Short press device key selects device, long press changes TV source. Double-press Guide selects PVR Guide and changes TV to view PVR etc.

Example - CBL device

A Macro is placed on the CBL device key which sets the C(hannel), O(ther), P(ip), T(ransport) keys and then calls XShift-CBL. XShift-CBL is assgned to a Special Protocol - LKP - in which a short press does "nothing" and a long press calls Shift-CBL. Shift-CBL is a Macro which temporarily addresses functions for my TV (X_TV, function, function, function, X_CANCEL). Short keypress thus sets up keys for CBL device (effectively "selects" CBL) and does no more; long keypress does this plus causes TV to change input source.

The 10820 extender still has a bug in it. you can't get at devices 9 and 10 unless you patch it.

To fix the extender, in the RAW DATA page in IR change byte ECDB from 09 to 0A and then upload to your remote. That should lift the device limit by 1 and give you back Aux2.
