I have been using a URC-7555 and 7556 for years and recently bought an as-new 7555 from eBay to replace one which was wearing out. I have found that the device keys tend to fail first, some of mine you need 5 or 6 presses to get them to register.
I tried to clone the old remote to the new. I downloaded from the old remote into memory then uploaded that into the new remote. I figured that should make the new one an exact clone of the old. But it does not. There are many differences.
I guess I will download from both remotes and compare the differences on screen. But what am I missing here? Why does what I did not make a clone?

Re: A few issues on returning to JP1
The 7555 and 7556 both have the same signature, so you should be able to load the memory from one into the other, but as you say, there are physical differences between the 2 remotes. Do any of the remotes have a sub-model number (ie, B00, B01, B02, etc)? If so, check that both remotes really do have the same signature.
As for the remote where the buttons have become hard to press, you can fix that with conductive paint (normally sold for shielding in guitars). Basically, if you get this paint, you would take the remote apart (sometimes easier said than done) and then grab the button sheet out of it. Clean it first, if it's got dirty or greasy, then paint the bottom of the buttons with the conductive paint.
Here's a bottle on ebay for $13:
