Maximum number of activities on ARRX15G (Xsight Color)?

Since EZ-RC has closed down, JP1 is your only option to get these remotes upgrades. We will (eventually) support all remotes formerly supported by EZ-RC, including the Moster Revolution 200.

Maximum number of activities on ARRX15G (Xsight Color)?

Post by n8nagel »

Good morning

First of all, Rob, I'm so glad to see you have decided to bring the forums back. I know it involved some work but I'm still out here collecting the somewhat obscure audio gear and it'd be hard to control without Xsight support, especially now that there's no more Harmony either.

Here's my setup - I have an Xsight Color that I've been using for close to 10 years now. When I got a "new" TV recently I had to get an A/V switch as the TV only has one analog input whereas the one it replaced that just got moved to the basement had two - so now the VHS and Laserdisc have to share an input. As such I chose to then run my analog devices through the new switch to my AVR instead which actually improves my setup somewhat - as my AVR can take a digital audio input on an analog video input, meaning I can a) use the digital audio tracks from my Laserdisc player without moving cables or reprogramming (it will automatically choose the digital audio but fall back to analog if there is none) and b) actually have surround on Laserdisc if I go down the road of AC3 modding the player and getting a demodulator to go with it. Given all that I had to redo the programming for my trusty Xsight Color and I have done so. However I find I now have 12 devices and 13 activities (as there are several activities related to the AVR, e.g. "Radio", "Phono", "Music Server") I did post the working file for the switch to GitHub (a Sima VS-502, which works for this setup as it supports switching optical digital in parallel with the RCAs) as while there was an upgrade for it previously - and big thanks to Barf and everyone else involved in migrating the files to GitHub - I brute forced it and found a lot of useful discretes that didn't seem to be documented anywhere.

To those who are going to suggest the obvious of getting a Retrotink, I have thought about it, but the picture on Laserdisc just letting the TV do its thing with the analog signal is actually quite good; certainly good enough for as often as the Laserdisc gets used. (as for the VHS, it is now in the shop because when I went to test the new setup, it decided to instead of playing correctly as it did the last time I fired it up, to throw an error and then eat my copy of the David Lynch Dune movie. D'oh. Just dropped it and some other busted stuff off yesterday that is beyond my minor abilities to fix.)

Anyway, here's the issue - only 12 activities are showing up on the remote after I upload. Is that a limit? I guess I assumed that if there was one it'd be 15 like the devices limit. Or have I messed something up in RMIR? Would an Xsight Touch allow me to have more activities, and are replacement batteries available for the Touch? (I like the Color because I can just use NiMH AAs in them and replace them if they go bad, which they never do.)

BTW I'm now officially spoiled, the new TV is a circa 2019 LG OLED and now I feel like a peasant watching the one year newer Sony in my bedroom - the blacks on the OLED are so amazing, it looks like the TV is off if there's no signal. My housemate's son has actually been fooled by this a few times (Nate! the TV isn't working! - no Bud, it's just awesome, hit play and see what happens...) The only thing the Sony does better is it has an ATSC 3.0 tuner but even though I'm in the Baltimore market I have yet to see an OTA 4k broadcast.

Rob, if you're reading this, I'd like to post to a couple groups I'm in that I know used these forums before, but won't do so unless you say it's OK. Are you good with people knowing this new forum is up and running, or would you prefer to keep it among just the people on GitHub for the time being?

Thanks all!
