JP1 Remotes

I recently purchased a URC-7145 (R02 according to the text in the battery compartment). But it has this weird flashing behaviour, which is quite annoying.

So I tried a factory reset (battery out; press a button; battery in; 2+4 together; then 981). I programmed the remote using the built-in codes: 1272 for Microsoft MCE, and 1825 for Sony TV.

Initially it works as expected:
- When a button with an assigned function is pressed, the red LED blinks once.
- When a button with no function is pressed, the LED does not illuminate.

I put it down, and after 5 minutes when I used it again the weird behaviour had started:
- Each press of a button with a function results in 6 blinks of the red LED.
- This happens for both of the programmed devices (codes 1272 and 1825).

It is almost as though the remote is sending repeats, but if it is, the device receiving the repeats (MediaPortal on a Windows PC) ignores them; MediaPortal reacts as though the button was pressed once only. So the multiple blinks appear to be benign, but they are nevertheless annoying.

I tried another factory reset, and the remote displayed the single blink initially, but then a bit later started the multiple blinks.

Does anyone know what is happening? I have not yet tried using the 7145 with RMIR.

Try New Batteries
On the 3660 5 blinks means weak batteries
I assume the 6 blink is one blink for the initial button press plus the 5 blink low battery indicator

The batteries that I used initially each measure 1.508 volts, so I thought that they would be OK. But they are quite old (expiry date: Feb 2018 ).

I have just replaced them with some brand-new Amazon Basics batteries (expiry date: May 2034), so I will see how the remote performs over the next day or two (but I think that the problem is solved ).
