"Porting" a RMIR configuration from one remote to

This is the JP1 beginners forum. There's no such thing as a stupid question in here, so post away, but this forum is just for JP1 users and people considering JP1, non-JP1 users please use the appropriate forum above!

"Porting" a RMIR configuration from one remote to

Post by timg11 »

I have used the Atlas OCAP 1056 for a number of years, and updated my RMIR file in the RMIR program to make any adjustments needed.

Now I have obtained a few UR5U-8780L-TWC remotes, and I'm wondering if I can program them with my existing customizations.

The first issue I see is the 8780L has a 4-pin header, and my JP1 interface has a 2x3 pin header for the 1056 remotes. I built the Tommy Tyler JP1.x interface with 4 transistors and it has worked great for many years.

The other issue is that the RMIR program does not have any selection of remotes. RMDU does, but I don't see any way to import an existing RMIR. RMDU files seem to define the device behavior (TV, Receiver), but not macros and keymoves that are in the RMIR program.

If this "porting" process is described anywhere, please post a link - I may have missed it.

You are correct that RM will let you open an upgrade formatted for a different remote and change the remote selection to your remote, but RMIR doesn't have that ability. Basically, it would be way too complicated for it to completely convert an RMIR file from one remote to another, so you have to rebuild from scratch.

As for your UR5U-8780L-TWC remotes, are these JP1 compatible remotes? I don't remember ever hearing of them before.

UR5U-8780L-TWC is a remote made by URC, while JP1 remotes are made UEI. I'm not aware of any openly available software to program URC remotes.
