ADB 3800W cablebox: JP1 remote to .bin for slingbox

I have a cablebox for which no one seems to have the codes to use slingbox. The remote is JP 1.3 and I have ordered a USB cable. Can someone direct me to instructions for getting the info from the remote to a .bin file that slingbox can use.

The cable box is ADB 3800W (they won't help) and the remote is a Universal Electronics, either a C4000 or a S4000 (not sure which).

Thanks

The first sticky thread in the Slingbox forum here describes the process of creating a BIN file for your Slingbox.

This thread here also discusses the ADB3800W. It looks like the protocol needs to be converted to a 1-byte protocol to fit into a Slingbox upgrade.

Thanks for the help.

I've found a few "how to" threads. I've ordered a URC8910 and will use that. Just wish I could pay someone a few bucks and get it done.

If you've ordered a JP1.3 cable, it won't work with the 8910. It needs a JP1 cable. You could go to your local radio shack and get a 15-133 or 15-135 which is learning and will work with the JP1.3 cable. So you need to cancel either the cable or remote order.

BTW, where did you find an 8910? Those are hard to come by these days.

Ebay for the remote, diygadget for the USB cable. The cable is listed as JP1 so maybe I'm alright.

I'm hoping to use the remote for the programming and then sell it with the cable here, for the next guy.

I don't think you need a JP1 cable and URC8910(for learning and downloading signal) as you can just use the JP1.3 cable to directly read the code from your remote. Given that the other user posted their .IR file, you probably don't even need the JP1.3 cable. What needs to be done now is to create a smaller version of the protocol that will fit inside a Slingbox BIN file.

Who can I hire to do this for me? I am fairly clueless on how to do this but am willing to try if necessary.

Anyone? PM if interested.

I guess that would be me. As you can see from the thread that Binky liked to, we have a code for ADB boxes that should (hopefully) work with your ADB3800W, but the executable part of the code is too big for the Slingbox, so it needs to be re-written so that it's smaller. This is something that I'm good at doing, but finding the time to do it is the challenge.

If you do have a JP1 remote with a compatible cable, you could test the upgrade that I posted in the other thread to confirm that it's the right one for your box.

Thanks to binky123, here is the solution.

I am using only basic remote commands (channel, up, down, etc) but they do work. The menu key is not programmed.

Close slingplayer if it is running.

He used this RMDU

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=6010

and edited RM's protocol.ini file with this entry for the protocol

[PID 01 61]
PID=01 61
DevParms=Device 1\=16,Device 2\=0,Device 3\=1
DeviceTranslator=Translator(0) Translator(1,8,8) Translator(2,8,16)
CmdParms=OBC
CmdTranslator=Translator(0)
DefaultCmd=00
CmdIndex=0
FixedData=10 00 01
Code.S3C80=43 8B 31 8B 14 83 80 80 03 08 00 00 9E 00 00 00 00 00 8E 97 B5 01 E2 01 CE 68 05 E4 06 05 69 06 20 10 37 60 09 E6 0E 2C E6 0F 5D F6 01 55 F6 FF 34 46 04 80 F6 FF 56 F6 01 73 1C 1E F6 01 4C 1C 14 F6 01 64 76 03 C0 EB 02 77 71 F6 01 70 77 70 F6 01 0A 7B E5 AF B0 C3 4C 03 28 06 F0 C2 87 53 03 02 25 F0 C5 02 25 3E 4A F4 56 C2 0F 56 06 F0 44 C2 06 AF

Find your SBAV folder.

Download and put this file(PL bin type) into it:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=6011

Start slingplayer, and go to Settings, then Setup Assistant

Select cablebox, and brand of Other

When you get to the list of codes, scroll to the bottom and select the last entry. I think it is Custom.

That opens up the box below. Put C1206 there and hit the power test.

It worked for me. Finish the setup. I had to select Medium speed for channel entry.

You should be good to go.

Make slingbox work with ADB5810

I am very new to this site, so I am afraid I do not understand how to put the files I have downloaded in the right places.

I have Mac with Leopard and Slingplayer is installed. I have downloaded C1206_PL.bin and ADB3800 ADB5810.rmdu and ADB5810.ir and ADB5810.xls.

Not sure what do to next to make my slingbox work with the ADB box, i.e. I do not know what to do with the files (stuffit does not expand the .bin file). After that, I guess I know how to follow drdestructo's instructions in the slingplayer.

Thanks for the help.

I managed to locate the SBAV on my Mac and put the downloaded files from above into it. No success.

Any advice?

You only need to save the BIN file in the SBAV folder, you don't need to save any of the other files. Are you sure you have a PL Slingbox?

Yes, I found the SBAV folder and saved the bin file (C1206_PL.bin).

When going through the Sling Setup assistant, it indeed retrieves the IR key map, which is a good sign, but when I do the Power button test, nothing happens.

I checked the IR blaster version and it is 2, so I guess that means PL.

Re-reading your posts it's not exactly clear which ADB box you have, maybe it uses different codes than the ones you downloaded.

Good question.

Visual inspection from the adbglobal website learns me that I have an IPTV hi def box, which is either 5810 or 5820.

Our local cable provider in Belgium, Telenet, has rebranded it as DC-AD2000. It does not come with a branded ADB remote.

Judging from the specs, I think it is 5810.
