I recently got into the world of JP1 remotes and have been really impressed with the level of customization they offer. However, I'm facing some challenges that I hope the community can help me with.
I have an older URC-8910 remote that I want to program to control multiple devices, including my TV, soundbar, and a set-top box. I've managed to get the basics down, but I'm struggling with a few specific issues:
Key Mapping: I can't seem to get the volume keys to control the soundbar while in TV mode. I've tried various key move configurations, but nothing seems to stick.
Macro Setup: I'm looking to create a macro that will turn on all devices and set them to the correct inputs with a single button press. Any tips on the best way to set this up?
Device Codes: Some of my devices are quite new, and I haven't been able to find the correct device codes in the existing libraries. Is there a way to manually input codes or create new ones?
Additionally, I've been exploring the potential of integrating eFPGA (embedded FPGA) with my JP1 remote setup. I'm curious if anyone has experience or insights on:
Using eFPGA for Enhanced Customization: How can eFPGA be utilized to further enhance the functionality of JP1 remotes?
Programming eFPGA: Are there specific tools or software that are recommended for programming eFPGA in the context of remote controls?
Compatibility Issues: Are there any known compatibility issues or limitations when integrating eFPGA with JP1 remotes?
I've been using the JP1 software, but I'm not sure if I'm leveraging all its features correctly, especially with the addition of eFPGA. Any guidance, resources, or step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated! |

In order to unlock the JP1 potential of your URC-8910 remote, or any other compatible remote, you need a JP1 cable. The URC-8910 is quite an old EEPROM based remote, which requires a cable that is no longer available. You can make one using an Arduino board, if you're interested. Following EEPROM remotes, came all the Flash remotes, which we generally call JP1.x, as they each have a classification like JP1.1, JP1.2, etc. These remotes all work with FTDI cables which are easily obtained on eBay, Amazon, etc. They just need the connector to be changed to a 2*3 style connector.
