JP1 Remotes

I have the adapter cable.
I have the latest Remote Master software, v. 3.x (on Win11).

I need to know the order of how to connect everything without doing any damage.

Is it

1. Turn on the app,
2. Plug the cable into the remote, then
3. Plug the USB into the computer...?

Also, what is the difference between RMIR, RMDU & RMPB?

Can I add copies of my OEM remotes to my URC's library?

I do 3,1,2. Then download the first time. That becomes the basis for all your changes. Have you read the Wiki?

RMIR is the main one and does all your remote config. RMDU (RM) is for a single device, but also accessible through RMIR. Same for RMPB but for protocols (only for expert users).

You can absolutely add all your OEM remotes. That^s the whole point.

Can I transfer learned keys from the first to the second?

Yes, but it kind of defeats the purpose of JP1. You should turn the learns into an upgrade and use that instead.

Where do the last two get added to the key-press info?

Why do you need to know any of that? All you have to do is press the convert to upgrade button and all the decoding is handled for you.

I have a copy of that file and I did not see where vendor# [EAC7] & format [6122A] were given. How does your program know to include these?

Larry, this sounds like one of those cases where you're asking for help to do things the exact way that you want to do them, rather than asking "what is the best way to achieve my goals, which are to ...".

Perhaps if you tell us what you're trying to do, we can tell you how best to do it. For example, if you simply want to add a Roku upgrade to one of your remotes, that's simple. In such case, do you really need to know all the steps that we went through to create that upgrade?

For existing upgrades like the one you're using, RM already knows everything it needs to know (protocol, aka vendor/format) except the OBC. Just add two new entries on the functions tab and type in the OBC, then assign to the buttons of your choice on the buttons or layout tab.

If those are the "unknown" functions you were talking about, I have no plans to add those since every remaining code without a description is already "unknown". But you're welcome to add as many as you like to your version. If they're actual, known functions, then I (or Rob) would be happy to add them to the master file.

I assume you also want to solve your original problem with the FFWD/REW buttons. Now that you can use RMIR, it's an easy fix. Just let us know how far you've gotten and what remains to be done. Posting your RMIR file would also be helpful.

As Rob said, if you just state the problem you're trying to solve, we can point you to the best solution which will be much quicker and easier than the way you're attempting to do it now.

I understand about the unknown Roku keys.

I have a Digital Stream DTV converter, for instance. Its protocols are not present on my Onn 6-device nor Spectrum 4-device remotes.

I have taught the former using the 975 command, but I am wondering how to add OEM keys when their protocols are unsupported. I am guessing I must 975 them in and move them around in JP1?

My Aiwa & Sony stereo protocols are also not present, among others.

The FFWD/REW issue will be when I try to import the stereo keys.

New protocols are rare. Can you post the RMIR files with your learns as well as the model numbers of your Aiwa and Sony devices.

The Sony, Aiwa & Digital Stream protocols are not new. I just have not found them on my UEI remotes.

Two of my older, non-UEI, remotes have protocols for Digital Stream, though. And I have the OEM remote.

The stereos are a boom box & a bookshelf stereo, not sound bars.

This still sounds like you're trying to get us to help you with a specific (probably wrong) solution rather than letting us help you solve the problem. When you say "The Sony, Aiwa & Digital Stream protocols are not new. I just have not found them on my UEI remotes." what do you mean? You shouldn't care whether a specific remote has a specific protocol installed, because RMIR keeps that of which protocols are in which remotes, and if your remote doesn't have the one you need, it will add it to the remote itself.

As an end-user, you shouldn't be concerned with such details, you just need to learn the signals from the OEM remote and let RMIR tell you what they look like. In most cases it will recognize the protocol and you can use the "create" button to automatically create a new upgrade.

If you learn a signal where RMIR cannot determine what the protocol is, then you need to post your RMIR file and we'll take a look.
