I have been using JP1 for 20+ years and I use IR to manage my remote but I have not been using it lately. I used to have a One-For-All URC6131 but the remote is failing (it would suddenly stop responding and requires a power reset) and I need to find a replacement.
I have previous purchased a RadioShack 15-134 JP1 remote. I have not use it with IR.exe until now. After so many years, I am a little confused about how to use it. First I need to address an issue with the connector because the slot in 15-134 is a little smaller (I use the parallel port JP1 cable), I filed it bigger so JP1 will fit. I believe the red wire of the cable should match the pin 1 of the connector.
I then realized I need something called RDF file. The help page here confuses me: http://www.hifi-remote.com/wiki/index.php?title=RDFs
"Get your RDFs here:
JP1 File Section -> Tools -> Main "
There is no RDF to download under "Main". So I went to the "Extenders" section and found a few files under 15-133 (15-13x) which has several 15-134 RDF.
I select the RDF and made a test download. Download from remote failed. Which looks like a timeout. I tried with and without battery. Selecting "JP1.x" and also "JP1 EEPROM". All failed. I don't know what I am missing. Any clues? |

The IR.exe program has been obsolete for a long time now. We still use RDFs, but we use them with a newer program called RM (Remote Master) and I don't know how backward compatible they are with IR.exe.
When you download RM it comes with all of the RDFs, so no need to try and find the one that you need because it's in there.
Your URC-6131 is a JP1 remote, whereas your 15-134 is a JP1.3 remote. These newer JP1.x remotes are not compatible with your old parallel cable. You'll need to get an FTDI cable (or similar) to program the 15-134. _________________ Rob
