It was obvious to me how to successfully upload .rmir files to a remote.

Unfortunately I do not see how to do the same with .rmdu files.

Perhaps .rmdu must first be converted to .rmir before the remote can be programmed?

Please forgive me if my question is beyond idiotic. I'm a total noob to this software.

An RMIR file reflects the total picture of what your remote looks like, whereas an RMDU file is an upgrade for a single device.

When you're in the RMIR program and you have your remote's profile loaded, the Devices tab lists all of the upgrades (if any) that are in your remote. When you edit one, the RM program pops up. To add a new upgrade, click on the New button (in the Devices tab), then click on the Open button in the pop-up RM screen, then select an RMDU file.

Thanks for your clear and concise answer. It makes perfect sense now.

Another function I'm still uncertain how to do: Manually assigning pronto hex codes to individual buttons. I assume this is supported within the aforementioned RMDU utility of RM? I've never attempted to do this, perhaps it's a relatively straightforward process...

Which model of JP1 remote do you have, and does it support learning? If so, in RMIR, go to the Learned Signals tab, click New, set the Bound Key to the button that you want to program, make sure that the Data Format is set to Pronto, and then paste the Pronto Hex in the box below, then click OK.

In the JP1 world, we mainly use learning to decode signals because there are better ways to program buttons.

Fantastic, thank you again Rob. I have three compatible remotes capable of learning: two ARRX15G and one RCA RCU810. Tonight I actually just installed the JP1 port mod on the old 810, which went well.

The primary equipment I'm struggling to get control over is an original Sunfire Grand Theater 1 preamp. In the file section, I noticed that some work had already been delved into for this device. Some of the posted files were apparently contributed by yourself, so it's great that you are familiar with coding for this thing.

Unfortunately, so far I'm unsuccessful getting the 810 to control the preamp with any of the provided configuration files. It is possible that the preamp in my possession is at fault. It does have an ongoing phase-shifting issue. Who knows, perhaps its IR sensor is on the fritz also? Doubtful but wouldn't surprise me.

Try this upgrade file:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=26974

I see that I created the original upgrade file using a homemade executor because I needed to combine different NEC1 sub-device codes, whereas we have a ready-made executor to do that now. Also, that upgrade is an old KM upgrade, whereas we use RM for upgrades now.

Here's the original thread:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=101129

Do you still have the original remote for the Sunfire Grand Theater 1 preamp, and if so, does it still work? I see that my upgrade is missing some of the original buttons, because I wasn't given learns for them, so if you have a working remote, you can capture whatever buttons are still missing and add them to the upgrade.

I do not have an original functioning remote. It was never given to me along with the used preamp. A buddy of mine does own an original, but it's defective. His remote spontaneously wiped itself one day. All of its preamp and stored device codes were lost. So essentially, I'm attempting to resolve this issue for both myself and a friend. I contacted Sunfire customer service several weeks ago. They were polite although adamant that they could not provide us with any help.

This is great__I will try your latest upgrade file later tonight and let you know how it goes.

The reason as to why I became interested in pronto hex was entirely due to this link:

https://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/codes/sunfire/theater_grand/

Supposedly that's the complete command code set. I have no idea if the data is legit or not. Didn't test any of them yet.
