I recently replaced my ancient soundbar with a "Nakamichi Shockwafe Elite 7.2.4" system and wanted to update my OARUSB04G remotes to reflect the change. I was unable to locate remote codes online for this soundbar and the only mentions being for the higher end universal remotes. After a day long trip down the rabbit hole I ended up using the IRMP Arduino library on a Leonardo clone to capture the key codes from my Nakamichi remote. I then created a device upgrade which, once uploaded to my universal remote, works a treat.

As stated in the topic I'm wondering how I would select a setup code that does not cause conflicts with other peoples upgrades ? Or do I juts pick anything between 2000 and 2048 and let possible conflicts be a problem for whoever might download my .rmdu in the future ?

Short answer: chose whatever number you like, it makes no difference.

Long answer: If you were asking that question over at UEI, the company that makes our JP1 remotes, they might actually put some thought into it. First off, they would want to pick an un-used number and secondly, if this new device shares some relationship to an existing device, they might want to pick a number that is similar in some fashion to that device.

Bottom line, as long as the device mode and setup code that you chose doesn't clash with another device that you're currently using, it doesn't matter. And even if it clashes with a number that the next person is using, they can easily change it.
