I'm helping my mom set up her new TCL Roku TV (model S425xxx) and was hoping to set up her local cable box remote control (UEI 1056B04) to handle the TV. However, I've been unable to find any TV code that seems to work at all with this TV. Unfortunately, I'm at my mom's house and do not have my JP1 cable available, so I'm stuck with whatever is available by default in this remote. Looking at the documentation, I'm not even seeing that this remote has learning capability?

Can any offer any suggestions on how I might be able to get this remote to control the TV? If I had my JP1 cable along, I might have more options, but without that I have a short amount of time to attempt to do this using standard remote.

Thanks for any insights,
Craig

You're gonna have to come back with your cable.

My best guess is that this is the upgrade that you'll need:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=25850

That one uses the Roku Official protocol (device codes 234.199), which matches official TV code TV/4398, but that's not in many remotes, and not in any of the 1056 remotes (as best as I can tell).

Thanks Rob. I was afraid of that being the case. Not sure when I will next have a chance to reprogram this remote, so she will just need to juggle two remotes until then.

Thanks,
Craig

The remote does not seem like it will accept any setup codes that are longer than 4 digits?

As an alternative, you could install RM on her computer while you're there, and arrange to have a cable delivered to her place. Then you could do the programming from your place and then email her a file to upload.

You can find a cable here:

then try TV/0463 instead.

I will ask her, but I'm guessing she is not going to be up for anything like that. She does pretty well with her computer given her age, but somehow I doubt she would want to go through with programming her remote Very Happy

I get that, which is why I was suggesting that you do 99% of the work by installing RM on her computer and making a shortcut to it, and buying a cable for her, then you can do all the programming from your place and just email her a file to load into the remote.

As another option, are there any other decent remotes (JP1 or otherwise) that would be able to act as a Roku TV remote as well as a Motorola Cable TV STB controller?

You could install something like Google Remote Desktop on her computer, then all she'd need to be able to do is plug the remote into her computer. You could load the file for her and perform tweaks as she tested and got used to it.

The Inteset 422-3 has TV code 14398 on board. And has many cable tv codes.

I have the TCL Roku tv, and remotes twenty years old using tv code 0463 at least give it power and volume.

Thanks. TV Code 0463 does give basic power and volume, so that is at least a start

If your mother only watches to the cable, you can set the roku tv so when it turns on it goes to the cable device instead of the roku home screen:

settings> system> power> power on> check the cable input

That code is NEC2 with device codes 134.5, so in that case, this is probably a better upgrade:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=9786

As you already have TV/0463 in the remote, so you can add any missing functions using advanced codes. Here are the EFCs from that file:

00058 - power
00042 - tv
00040 - comp
00101 - hdmi
00036 - video
00181 - 1
00185 - 2
00183 - 3
00187 - 4
00180 - 5
00184 - 6
00182 - 7
00186 - 8
00053 - 9
00169 - dot (.)
00057 - 0
00117 - last (prev ch)
00116 - menu
00251 - exit
00167 - up arrow
00118 - left arrow
00245 - enter
00120 - right arrow
00171 - down arrow
00168 - guide
00122 - info
00248 - input
00190 - ch-list
00043 - favorite
00244 - ccd
00052 - vol up
00056 - vol down
00054 - mute
00055 - channel up
00059 - channel down
00123 - sleep
00164 - zoom
00121 - mts/sap
00041 - picture
00133 - play
00193 - pause
00137 - stop
00037 - audio
00006 - rewind
00008 - fast fwd
00189 - prev track
00010 - next track
00201 - Discrete On
00197 - Discrete Off
00223 - HDMI 1
00227 - HDMI 2
00220 - HDMI 3

It has been a long time since I've done JP1 stuff (my personal remotes haven't had to change in a few years). Is it possible to use advance codes without a cable for programming?
