I uploaded that file to the remote and it seems like all functions of the receiver device work again! Thank you very much!

May I ask what went wrong and how you fixed it?

Yes, I'd be happy to. First, some background knowledge, with NEC signals, there's a difference between leaving the sub-device blank and entering a zero, because when an NEC sub-device is blank what it really means is, the sub-device is the complement of the device code.

So, when I opened your RMIR file, I clicked EDIT on the #6 upgrade to look at it and I noticed that all the functions were using either 122.255 or 126.255 as the device code (where 255 is the sub-device code). I'm not aware of any devices that use those codes, but I do know devices that use 122 and 126 (is this a Yamaha?). So, on the Setup tab, I deleted all the 255 entries and left them blank.

I think the root cause lies with the fact that the original upgrade was added via EZ-RC rather than via RMIR and RM.

yes the receiver is a Yamaha and I did the setup with EZ-RC or I used the keycodes I got from One For All. The CD / DVD player is also a Yamaha and that one still works. So it went wrong after I edited the 2 buttons and uploaded to the remote again? I did another upload before but I only edited a button in the main menu of the remote and not a device itself.

If you use the new RMIR file as a starting point going forward, you should be ok.

yes I will, I deleted the other files.

But did this happen because I downloaded and uploaded from the device or because I changed something or the receiver?

Thank you very much again!

In order to say for certain what happened, I would need to see a raw download of the data in your remote before you changed anything, which obviously isn't possible now. But bottom line, it looks like RMIR misread the blank sub-device codes as hex zero, which translates to 255 in decimal. So when you reloaded the remote, that's what you sent into it and that one device stopped working.

But while I have you here, I am interested to know more about that Ziggo Mediabox XL that you have programmed into this remote, because it uses an protocol that we haven't come across before.

Do you still have the original remote for this box? If so, would you be willing to learn a few of the buttons for me, just so I can see what the signal really looks like? Plus, if there are any functions on the original remote that are not included in the upgrade, include those buttons with the learns and I'll add them to the upgrade.

Reading the assembler it looks like it has a midframe burst and it looks like the 2nd byte of the function hex code is a checksum. I can come up formula for 5 of the 8 bits.

EDIT: Nevermind, it turns out we did see this one a long time ago here:

The Mediabox XL is also called Horizon. The Original remote is a bit strange. It seems like that it has most functions in IR but some are also RF. I came with a solution to create a macro function for these. It works but it is anoying.

From what I've read, the original remote is RF but the device also supports IR, so folks had to search for the IR commands as they couldn't learn them from the OEM remote. If there are remote functions that are not included in the upgrade that you downloaded, I could create some dummy upgrades that have all of the missing OBCs in them so you could test to see if they do anything.

it could be that some functions are RF and IR but a few are RF only. For those I created a macro. I did this all a few years ago in EZ-RC.
You think you have codes for those functions that are RF only that work?

It's possible that some are RF only, but it's also possible that there are some IR codes that just haven't been discovered yet. I'm not sure where the known IR codes came from if the OEM remotes are RF only. But what I can do is help you see if there are any more IR codes yet to be found. I know how the checksum works in this signal, so I can create dummy upgrades which contain all the gap OBCs. I can group them all together in an RMIR file that you can load into your remote and then just test the buttons. If you find a button that does something, make a note of which button it was and what it did, then I'll add them to your upgrade.

Here is an RMIR file with 5 dummy upgrades included. To run the tests, load this into your remote and then try each of the 5 devices, test each button included. If any of them do anything, make a note of which test device it was, which button is was, and what it did.

I gather that the way you're fudging a GUIDE button is to make a macro of MENU and SELECT. With that in mind, I've tried crafting a learned signal that would replicate that, so if the search comes up empty, try adding this Pronto hex as a learned signal and see if that replicates GUIDE better than using a macro. It's possible that I may need to increase the time delay between the two halves of the signal, so let me know if it works and if needed, I'll tweak it.

yes that is how I made the buttons. Guide was one of them. Also Return to TV, Help, On Demand and DVR. I'm not sure about Info and Tekst but I think these were IR also. Where do I have to put the codes for the 2 options? By the way I didn't have time to test the RMIR file you sent me. Do I have to put the 2 options in there?

It would be nice if also DVR and Back to TV work better on the Xsight. I use these a lot. On Demand and Help not that much..
