I have recently acquired a rare TacT amplifier which is missing the remote. The chances of finding a used example are slim, but I have by a remarkable stroke of luck found an upload of the remote on CCF / pronto format over at remotecentral.com

I have tried loading it into various utils for conversion (CCF Extractor / IR Scrutnizer) but it either failures to load or crashes during "IR Trans" conversion.

My objective is to convert this file into a format that my Android phone can understand, and utilise my Galaxy S5's IR Blaster capability.

The raw values of the CCF are as follows:

I don't know anything about what format your Android can use, but these are standard NEC1 signals with device code 135 and sub-device code 124. If you have a JP1 remote, I have created an upgrade for it:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=25828

What is the model number for your amplifier?

If you'd like a cheap replacement remote for this amp, you could buy the OARUSB04G remote, which is $17 on Amazon, and then load the above upgrade into it.

Many thanks for your post Robman. It's a TacT Millennium MKII model - around 20 years old but still manages to produce excellent sound reproduction with some tough speaker loads.

I must admit that I wasn't sure what this site was about when I posted, but it was obvious you guys know your stuff on remote controls - now I am having a proper look... I like what you're up to!

Thanks to www.remotecentral.com and adelias over a DIYaudio - between the two I am up and running Smile Controlling the volume is painfully slow (3 clicks per decibel, and holding down the button does nothing to speed things up), however all the originally remote's functionality is now to hand! Details here, in case anyone is interested:

https://www.diyaudio.com/forums/class-d/348927-tact-millennium-amplifier-mk2.html

I've now piggybacked off the my Galaxy s5's IR blaster to a couple of universal "learning" remotes for safe keeping.

A cambridge audio m1+ has been my go to device for years, one of the first affordable touchscreen programmable remotes from the late 90s (made by Stanley Beresford I believe). A little archaic but they're great gadgets. The only drawback being that they are a pain to re-program and they only learn from other remotes.

I do have a handful One for All remotes already here, are any compatible with your upgrade?

I think they all are compatible, but you would need a JP1 cable and maybe an adapter for the Kameleon. I would recommend getting the OARUSB04G that I mentioned earlier as it's so cheap and it comes with its own USB cable which enables it for JP1 use. As I'm guessing you're in the UK, the European model is the URC-6440 or URC-6430, so you could try looking for those, or check eBay for folks that ship to the UK.

As for why your slowness problem, those Pronto codes are not very well formatted, so they won't repeat when held down. Would it be useful to you to have Pronto code that would repeat properly?

I'm guessing the MAX VOL code doesn't work at all, am I right?

Several of the codes that you posted are really the same code, so here's some clean Pronto hex that you can try:

Thanks a lot for that Rob, I will give the cleaned up codes a try. I did wonder why there were so many version of the same function... FYI they are work, however the MAX VOL function would not program into another remote.

It would be really useful to have a repeatable pronto code for the VOL UP / DOWN functions, so that the amp responds properly. How can I go about achieving this?

P.S I will also take your recommendation on a URC 6440 / URC 6430 - no doubt it will be money well spent!

The codes that I posted should repeat properly, and the MAX VOL should work too (if I've read the bad code properly).

I'll give them a try tomorrow Rob.

Looking at the original pronto file via irScrutinizer, the MAX VOL function was missing two required values (jvc and 135).

NEC signals have two pairs, which in Pronto terms are "0016 0016" (for 0) and "0016 0041" (for 1). (The timings are approx, so 0014 0015 0016 0017 are all the same for this purpose).

The MAX VOL string has pairs "0016 0016" and "0016 0007". When I compared the data to the other learns, it appears that "0016 0016" correlates to "1" and "0016 0007" correlates to "0", so that's how I decoded it. Let me know if my MAX VOL code works, because I doubt the original code does.

If you think it's worth testing whether your amp responds to any other codes not in your list, the following file contains all 256 possible codes for this device, so you could test them to see if any of them do anything (skipping the ones that you already know, of course).

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=25830

Also, if you find that my Pronto hex codes don't repeat either, I can re-generate them in a slightly different format that probably will repeat. Here's a sample. (Note: don't even try these codes if the previous codes DO repeat, as they may cause your device to lock up).

Device Code: 135.124 Function: 136 Vol+

Device Code: 135.124 Function: 140 Vol-

The original code works, I can set MAX VOL definition to OFF or ON.

However, I can't toggle it right away. I need to change the volume before the button press is interpreted again.

I'll try out your revised codes this afternoon, thanks again for your assistance. If I can get the volume commands to repeat, I will be well happy!

Quick note:

The JVC decode is erroneous. Should be NEC (in some version, depending on the repeat). I discovered a quite "interesting" bug in the decoder. Sorry for that. Embarassed

Will have a new version later today.

Lol, that last post wasn't by me, that was Barf talking about his decoder and the fact that it incorrectly said the MAX VOLUME code used the JVC protocol. You should test the Pronto hex that I posted whenever you're ready.

Those new codes are working well Rob, thank you very much! I can now hold down the volume - / + to adjust accordingly - you've been a great help Smile
