JP1 Remotes

It's been many years since I last used a JP1 adapter, but my Win7 laptop died a while back, so I'm stuck with a Win10 laptop now and my old JP1 USB cable doesn't work on it (and I couldn't get the hack to work) so I bought another DIY JP1 adapter (as I've long lost my original one). Trouble is, I can't get it to work. Now, DIY doesn't mark which pin is pin1, so that adds to the experimenting. But I don't remember if batteries should be in or out, nor what interface type should be selected in RMIR.

For my experiments, I left it on auto detect. I tried 2 of my JP1.x cables, one an FTDI and the other a Prolific. First, I used the cable to download from a URC-8820, just to confirm that it works, then I attached the adapter and tried it in all four positions (ie, tried the cable each way round, with the adapter each way round). First I tried it with the batteries in, then again with them out, but I got the "no remotes" message each time.

Any thoughts?

I take it that you are following Vicky's excellent instructions. I did that, back in January, when I migrated to Win10 and I too found at first that it didn't work. I traced the problem to the stage where you enter a DeviceInterfaceGUID. I found that step had added two entries to the Device Parameters page. I've forgotten what the second one was, but I think it had a Multi-String value rather than a String. I deleted that second entry, just leaving the one I was supposed to add, and it then worked.

I can't help with the DIY Gadget adapter as I don't have one, I have an old Tommy Tyler one instead. However, these adapters make the JP1 remote be seen by RMIR (and IR.exe) as a JP1.x remote. Auto detect should be fine. I only have one JP1 remote, a URC-8550, and that works in RMIR on Win10 with the batteries in, both with the Delcom cable and the above fix and with the adapter and an FTDI JP1.x cable.

Yes, I did follow Vicky's instructions. I will try re-visiting them to see if I can get the old cable to work.

Is anybody else currently using a DIY Gadget JP1 adapter?

Sorry i did not respond sooner Robman but i seldom use windows
anyway i just tested my DIY Gadget JP1 adapter on a FTDI cable with win 10 with my JP1 RS 15-1994 and both download and upload worked.
Not sure if you have a bad adapter or what
Since i seldom use windows i have not done any of the registry hacks for power management but you now know that the adapter does indeed work in win 10
