In the RM OARUSB04G device upgrade editor, the Buttons tab shows a number of buttons that are followed by asterisks.

Can someone explain what these indicate or point me to a reference that I have not been able to spot?

Related to this, I assigned a function to the "arrow*" button

After uploading this and subsequent edits to two different OARUSB04G remotes, I noticed that the backlight, which would previously turn off, stayed on all of the time resulting in battery depletion in several days.

Is it possible that RM assignments have changed the backlight properties?

Thanks in advance,
Beverly Howard

Asterisk means whatever function gets assigned to that button will show up on the Keymoves tab, meaning it takes up memory separate from the rest of the device buttons. No real practical difference in terms of everyday use.

It's a little odd that Arrow is a keymove. Seems like that should be like the other physical buttons. Possibly a mistake in the RDF.

Regarding the backlight, inadvertently turning it on is a possibility. See this post and the one that follows for an explanation and a fix:

Buttons with an asterisk are not part of the button map for the selected device type, so assigning functions to them will generate key moves.

No idea about the back-light

Excellent info!

This makes sense.

I think something that I did while learning and experimenting with RM probably changed the defaults. After removing the assignment of the "arrow key" and re uploading the definitions this morning, it _appears_ that the backlight is turning off, but the thread reference will help.

Will tinker and learn and report back.

As posted in the above backlight thread;

code 974 toggles the backlight on the OARUSB04G
