Sony rm-av3000 data dump

I am a software developer and am interested in developing a solution to backup the data from a Sony rm-av3000. The Sony will do a full or single component transfer to another rm-av3000. I would like to start by saving to and restoring from, data to my pc. Maybe even some sort of editor. Can someone point me in a direction to get me started. I develop in Delphi. I know this is a JP1 forum. Is there anyway to use the JP1 interface with a radio shack remote to act as a transceiver for my pc to the rm-av3000 to move data back and forth?
