JP1.3 cable arrived today. All systems go.
Is it possible to access the other 4 devices, such as doing a shift device press in some way?

Make a macro that has a single step e.g. dev1, assigning it to a regular or shifted button. Running that macro will place the remote into dev1 mode.

Alternatively, does anybody know where to buy the surface mount LEDs that we can solder on ourselves?

That is the same model number as the backlit unit I have. The (two) non-backlit units I have are a different model number. I ordered two of these. Thanks for the heads-up ...

FYI, I purchased one of the NS remotes which is not backlit this last week from China on Ebay for the $13.80 shipped NS-RC05A-11. IT was mentioned in a vizio JP1 thread as an alternative to the Vizio VUR8 ($9.99 shipped). [I believe they are either out at that price (or have raised the price on the VUR8s and down to the final few.]
I do like the feel of the NS remote...although (and I am surprised) I do miss the backlight...[PS..I am not a touch typist either...hunt and pecker...please no comments about me calling myself a pecker...]
The internal codebase is pretty limited, so time to get out the cable again.
Just wanted people to know, if they are making a purchase thru ebay...the current shipped model is the NON-backlit model....NS-RC05A-11
IT REALLY DOES FIT well in my hands though!!

Yeah - definitely good to point this out. I bought one too because the buttons LOOKED backlit, but they are not.
Meh. Atlas FTW. (or Xsight coming soon to a JP1 tool near you

I bought a "Nexus" remote on ebay that is backlit. I found it on amazon, and it looks identical to mine. Might be worth the $10 dice roll?

Nice find. You have to add $5 for shipping, but not bad overall. It's worth the risk I think. Let us know how it works out.

I'm happy to report that these Nexus remotes are indeed backlit, and RMIR recognizes them as "Insignia Remote 67100"
Also, there are some cosmetic differences when compared to the Insignia:
The most obvious are vol +/- and ch +/- which are white with black text.
Other than that, there are some differences in button labels:
Code: Select all
Insignia Nexus
--------- -------
OK / Enter OK
TV (Red) HDMI 1 (Red)
VIDEO (Green) HDMI 2 (Green)
COMP (Yellow) HDMI 3 (Yellow)
HDMI (Blue) HDMI 4 (Blue)
RECALL LAST
PVR LIST
ENTER -
FAV CCD
SAP MTS/SAP
GAME SLEEP
CCD TIME
SLEEP AUDIO
DYN VOL PICT
PICT POWER OFF
ZOOM POWER ON
The labels in the battery compartment:
Code: Select all
Insignia Nexus
