Brown-Black-Orange-Gold (or possibly the reverse  ) is that 10K or 1K?
They sound like 10k.

I use the simple parallel interface, with my two sky remotes.

I fitted 1k resistors & a 1N4148 diode.

Sounds like the 10k resistors may be the problem.

Mine would not work with rechargeable batteries, but thats down to the eeprom voltage range.

Using the Macro function of the Sky+ remote

(TV Select+Green w x y z Select)

I've been extracting the codes for each button with the hope of getting a working RDF file.

Only one Macro is available and up to four buttons can be allocated. Any buttons on the remote can be used in the Macro except Sky, TV, TV Guide, Box Office, Services, Interactive, i and Select.

For those buttons that can be allocated, I set up a macro of four buttons and then used IR to read memory locations 18..1B to get the codes.

Looking at the Sky+ remote schematic, the codes appeared to tie in with their positioning in the 8x6 grid and this allowed me to fill in the codes for the unalloctable buttons.

I've made a mistake in the schematic as I listed the Help button twice! R5/C8 should be the Text button.

The only problem button is Select which is on a line all by itself so could be probably allocated a code of 01 or 31. I'm going with 31 for now but am willing to be corrected if I've guessed wrongly.

If they are any use to anyone else, here are the codes I've got (in hexidecimal):

Sky 09
TV 0A
Power 0B
Volume+ 0C
Volume- 0D
Channel+ 0E
Channel- 0F
Mute 10

TV Guide 11
Box Office 12
Rew 13
Play 14
Fwd 15
Stop 16
Pause 17
Rec 18

i 19
Interactive 1A
Services 1B
Help 1C
1 1D
2 1E
3 1F
Text 20

4 21
5 22
6 23
7 24
8 25
9 26
0 27
Back Up 28

Up 29
Down 2A
Left 2B
Right 2C
Red 2D
Green 2E
Yellow 2F
Blue 30

Select 31 (or may be 01)

Been doing some reading and successfully constructed the serial interface.....

Did anyone manage to make an RDF for the BS03BS30 remotes please?

I too renamed an RDF file and got a checksum error. I have found by trial and error that the checksum range on my remote (16mhz xtal SC51651PE) is 002 to 07E.

Now to look further. I feel that the only thing i'll accomplish is to make remote remember the settings when the battery is removed!!
