Larry,
I'm sure if you have problems serious enough to resort to manual editing that other users might have problems too. Not all users will be as resourceful as you. So please help us identify where things went wrong with yours for the sake of the community. So just post your RMIR file(s) please. Just click below and fill in the name and description then choose your file.

My manual editing was not for the reported problems. It was just to add keys to upgrades that continued to work well. I have since found out that I can add them in the RMDU software.
RMIR files sent.

Thanks for posting the link Randy. Larry, it's common courtesy to post a link to files that you want us to look at, otherwise each of us has to go searching for them.
Now, the only issue I see in the first file is that there is a custom copy of the NEC executor loaded which has already been discussed in full with Randy on page 4 of this thread. Are there any other issues that you need assistance with? This thread is already at 6 pages, so I don't feel like going back and re-reading everything to try and catch up.

So Rob, how would you advise a novice who encountered that issue with the custom executor, just delete the offending device(s) from within RMIR?

That is what I did.
It was in the upgrade I laid out for the 3660.* Since none of the upgrades for my Charter had those issues, I imported them for grins & giggles. Problem solved.
After that, the process has been going swimmingly.
(Can anyone tell me where the "custom executor" was added, jamming up the works?)
*RMDU Layout tab, not in Notepad.

They should probably bring it here as a question. I assume these upgrades were added at the factory. I'll need to take a look at the custom version of NEC to see if they made any significant changes to it.
But yes, if they don't need these factory installed upgrades, deleting them will solve the problem. Of course, I would recommend saving a backup copy of the RMIR file first.
Shift Key; News To Me...

When you are away from your computer and change a device's setup code manually, only the unshifted keys will get changed.
The shifted keys will not get changed to the new device type.
On the Charter OCAP C4000, even the unshifted Video Source & On Demand keys do not get swapped out.
For me that just means I must code my upgrades to unshifted keys only, if I plan to invoke them on-the-fly.
The shifted keys are still useful for default devices.

Is there a better sub-forum to share these kinds of discoveries?
Is this limitation already known and reported somewhere?
Anyone expecting the shifted keys to update (away from the computer) is going to be sorely disappointed otherwise.

So let me see if I understand you correctly, you programmed the remote using JP1, then you disconnected the remote and did some programming directly into the remote and your complaint is regarding how the remote handled things, right?
Or, more specifically, when you did the programming using JP1 you loaded an upgrade and in the process you programmed some shifted buttons. Then, programming the remote directly, you changed the setup code on a device button and discovered that the shifted buttons still use the old setup code. Do I have it right?
If so, let's think about what you did in reality because RMIR hides a lot of the small details from you. When you programmed the upgrade to a device button which included shifted buttons, the shifted buttons got programmed as keymoves. RMIR did this for you, if you had done it on the remote, you would have had to program each of them using the 994 command.
If you had changed the upgrade on the device button using RMIR, it would have taken care of the shifted buttons too, but when you switch back to doing things manually, you have to re-program the shifted buttons manually.

I am merging all of your posts back to this main post because these are very much beginner questions that most other people already understand.
JP1 Lookup Tool...?

I am not seeing URC-3660 nor Charter OCAP C4000 in the available remotes. Which remote codes should I use?

The Lookup tool is quite old, so I don't think it has all the newer remotes in it. What are you trying to look up?

I was looking for all available keys for TV1963.
The Charter URC does not support dual devices very well.
I have an OEM remote for my Magnavox DVD/TV.
My Emerson TV OEM remote is TV1864 but it accepts many of the keys from TV1963. I was curious if the latter had more compatible keys available.
