I received one of these recently and it works well. I couldn't find a mark denoting pin 1 on the IDC connector. Experience shows me that the wire corresponding to pin 1 emanates from the left side of the USB plug (when the USB plug extends toward the viewer.) This is the side with the red LED.

You can run the ribbon cable through your fingers to find the corresponding end of the IDC (6 pin JP1) connector. I marked it with a Sharpie.

So are you still open for business? just checking its been a while from first post.

Don't mean to speak for Tommy, but the bottom of that post says it was updated 3 days ago. So I'd say yes. If you want the best JP1 cable available, go ahead and contact him per the instructions in the post.

Tommy, I've been using one of your USB JP1 cables for a couple months now. It works flawlessly, and it looks great too. Hopefully, my URC-9910 and 8910s will last as long as this cable. Thanks!

Tommy, I got the JP1 (EEPROM) USB cable. It worked perfectly on WinXP after loading the Delcom driver. Thanks for the great service!

I'm searching for an IR USB receiver to control XBMC (a popular media center) on linux. I've read that the IR widget is FTDI based and lirc (the linux IR utility) supports the FTDI FT232-based IR Receiver.

Is this FT232 the same from the IR widget?. Do you have any news of someone using successfully this setup?.

I have no knowledge of or experience with XBMC or lirc. There are probably many different "FTDI FT232-based IR Receivers" and the Widget is just one of them, designed specifically for capturing IR communications from consumer type IR remote controls. It is not a device for use with IRDA.

For XBMC it's best to get the windows media center IR receiver, the keymap is already set up in XBMC making it almost plug and play. You can find them really cheaply on e-bay.

I haven't posted on here for a while, because I've been extremely busy, but I couldn't let this go without comment.

I had to return to programming remotes because we got a whole load of new equipment, and I was juggling my home made JP1 cable and a flaky Jp1.x cable I purchased elsewhere.

I looked at this thread, and decided to order one of Tommy's Flash Cables, and an EEPROM adapter, because I have half a dozen JP1 remotes of both flavours.

It arrived quickly, and all I can say is Wow !

Professionally manufactured, easy to use, clever design, and works on all 5 computers/laptops/OS I've tried it on.

This cable/adapter combination is superb.
