JP1 Remotes

Are you going to be restocking the 8811s? I have located another source but I'd rather buy through you and help support the website.

Ouch! It looks like OFA is slowly killing off the JP1 remotes. This time I'm going to stock up on whatever remote I select. My 15-1994s are wearing out and I'm in mourning. That little hunk of plastic becomes an awful lot of what your home theatre is.

Hi Jim Henry, to replace an 8811, I went with the 8910. It has a bit better feel to it - not as slippery. the extender is different, but not difficult - if you need that . If you are looking for a remote that looks like th 8811, the 8910 is about as close as you'll get in a jp1 one.

Would you have for sale or know anyone who still has the JP1 pogo pin adapter in stock? I've given up on trying to make my 9960 work with the JP1 header by contact and lack the soldering skills necessary to attach the header.

Can you modify my new 6131 so that its programmable for the new tv?

I don't offer an upgrade service for 6131 remotes as I sell modified 6131s. I only made the offer to modify the Kameleon because nobody is currently selling the pogo-pin adapters.

Many have reported getting their URC-6131n replaced through OFA (or actually the manufacturer UEI). You simply contact them (email or via phone) that you need certain codes added. They will provide you a return authorization, requiring you to pay for shipping the remote back to them. They will return a programmable URC-6131nw with your new codes (shipped free). In some cases, they may "upgrade" you to a URC-8820 (8-device (10+ device programmable) that is somewhat less physically compatible with the TIVO remotes). I like the URC-8820 also, but the buttons are labeled a little different.

If you have the older original URC-6131 (non-rectangular shape), then you are probably out of luck for the free upgrade. There is a lot of information on this site for upgrading URC-6131's yourself, however. Do note that the case opening can be a bit tricky and may scar your plastic if not very careful.

Also note that Rob's modified URC-6131s have twice the EEPROM size of the ones that OFA sends back (meaning they have twice the room for programming). All URC-6131n and URC-8820 remotes are JP1.2

PS: One final note is that the URC-6131n has two buttons that are wired together (stupid, huh). Some have modified one button to be a different button code (so it is usable). I do not know if there has been any consensus on what button modification to do, but I would liek to know before I eventually modify mine.

PSS: I will hopefully be adding a modified X10 keychain remote inside my URC remotes soon to provide the RF wireless function. (It looks to be pretty easy. The X10 keychain remotes are 3V like the URC remotes). I seem to have misplaced my box of mini-X10 remotes to try this, but should set it up within a few weeks, I think.

Where else did you try? DIY is the only JP1 vendor active right now. Regular non-JP1 vendors won't have any JP1 parts.

I tried here http://www.issue-resolved.com/JP1Pogo.htm since that was the first link that came up with a search. They no longer have any in stock. There was another site but I never got a response from them (I guess no longer working?) I didn't see the adapter on DIYGadget before but when I asked just now they said they are out of stock as well.

Rob, it's not clear to me whether you have 6131-old, the non-rectangular ones. If you do, are they reissue, old beat up of fairly new?

I have both the old URC-6131 and the new URC-6131N, both new. However, my supply of the old URC-6131 is dwindling.
