Works on one laptop but not another.

Similar problems. I have home made JP1 simple cable that works with a Fujitsu AMD Laptop XP Home- SP2 and does not work on Thinkpad XP Pro - SP2. The "Check interface" always fails. However, "Download from remote" cause all the LCD segments to light up on my URC-8910B02 just like it was working but ir.exe gives the standard "Check you cable and ports" message.
Tried batteries in/out/reversed. Grounded pins 18-25. Ran allowio.exe. Still works on my Fujitsu but not on the IBM Thinkpad.
I ordered a cable from Diygadgets a couple of weeks ago to see if that one will work.
Update: The cable from Diygadgets works fine.
