I was wondering what the "again" referred to in the subject line, so I searched and found the original thread on this topic and have merged this new thread into the old thread. This will help the experts know what the original problem was and what you did previously to fix it.

No, actually. We bought this megapak last month, but I am uncertain of their "freshness". Guess I need to buy a tester.

Well, you can buy a megapack real cheap and get some shockingly poor batteries for your money. I've seen 48 AAs for sale for £1 in the UK and have no reason to believe that "Super Power" or "Special Power" has any more real meaning in the rest of the world. "Buy cheap, pay twice". Personally, I bought expensive in bulk for rechargeable AAs but the kids' toys these days use so many batteries that it works out worthwhile in the end and it means many less batteries to dispose of when they cease to function (the batteries, that is; the kids seem to be fitted with super-dooper-capacity Duracels).
