RMIR - problems with extender for URC-6440 - SOLVED
Moderator: Moderators
Ok, I've done it!
When I go to special function and "new" now, duration boxes come up for LKP and DKP.
What was I doing wrong you're going to ask..
To be honest I'm really not sure now. I tried to replicate the issue I can't.
So the extender is installed correctly now but I still have a problem with the fast forward button.
A couple times when trying to copy the settings.bin file across in windows explorer it did come up with "Invalid MS Dos function", to which I cancelled and then it worked on the second attempt. Not sure if this is normal?
Is it also normal that when you delete the settings file from the OFA remote in windows explorer and you copy across another settings.bin, you still have to selected "Copy and Replace"?
I can upload data files for you Graham but not sure if they're any use now if it's running correctly?

Jez, the fast forward normally performs whatever is on the (corrected: SkipFwd key, and if the button is pressed and held it does whatever is on (corrected: FastFwd) instead.
I think mathdon ok'd the extender for that but I am not sure what would actually happen with a DKP macro on it, hence the caveat.
What!! TWO new remotes??

I NEVER delete settings.bin from the remote. I just copy, and say "yes" when asked if I want to overwrite the existing one. I doubt if the deletion action is actually supported by the remote, as the remote without this file is in an unusable state. So probably the delete doesn't work and so you still have to "copy and replace". But my advice is to never attempt the deletion.JezW wrote:Is it also normal that when you delete the settings file from the OFA remote in windows explorer and you copy across another settings.bin, you still have to selected "Copy and Replace"?
No, it's not normal. Perhaps it is connected with your deletion attempt. The only time I have seen this message is trying to copy an OARUSB04G settings.bin to a URC-6440. UEI has taken the precaution of checking that the settings.bin file is for the correct remote, and if it isn't, it fails with this message.A couple times when trying to copy the settings.bin file across in windows explorer it did come up with "Invalid MS Dos function", to which I cancelled and then it worked on the second attempt. No need, now that you have RMIR working correctly. It will remain a mystery as to what went wrong for you earlier.I can upload data files for you Graham but not sure if they're any use now if it's running correctly?
BTW Please keep on asking. It's no bother. I like to help users get the most out of my software efforts.

Thank Graham, I hate asking stupid questions or the same thing twice, I'm trying my best not to. Really frustrating to know I have the tools in front of me to do what I want but no understanding of how to do it!mathdon wrote: BTW Please keep on asking. It's no bother. Jez, is it only the FastFwd button that is a problem? If there is no SkipFwd function assigned, only FastFwd, then you have to hold the key for a short time before it is recognised as FastFwd. A short press will simply try to send the non-existent SkipFwd signal, with no effect. I'm not sure how long the delay is, I can't remember, but it may be enough for you to think it isn't working and so press harder. Just check that it isn't a time delay rather than a lack of pressure that is causing the effect. The Rewind / SkipBack button is the same, these are the only two (except Setup and Copy) that have a built-in Long/Short Keypress behaviour in the unextended remote.

I really don't know. I think so, but it is a strange thing to do. There are already two actions on these buttons, see previous message, so if you assign functions to the FastFwd and SkipFwd buttons in RMIR, you are already putting two functions on the same physical button without any need for a DKP. I suppose that if you put a DKP on SkipFwd then two quick presses will send yet a third function, but I can't see why you would want to do so.JezW wrote:A DKP on the fast forward/rewind buttons should still work shouldn't it?
Graham
Only reason I thought I'd do that is because with Sky, each time you press fast forward it changes the forward speed, in this order: x2, x6, x12, x30.
So I thought I would assign a DKP to get to x30 by pressing twice instead of four times. Not a very useful macro tbh, I was just wondering why it didn't work.

Jez, there is still something odd about your RMIR setup. The image in your most recent post only shows two activities. There should be SIX tabs, the others being WatchTV2, WatchMovie2, WatchTV3, WatchMovie3. These should be present even if you have nothing set up on them. In view of your previous issue with the missing Duration box, it is beginning to look to me as if there is a problem with your Java installation as both issues seem to be some Java construction not being acted upon.
Second thoughts: this could arise from an incomplete extender installation. Post your settings.bin file in the Diagnosis Area so that I can check this.

Just when I thought i was making good progress!mathdon wrote: Second thoughts: this could arise from an incomplete extender installation. Post your settings.bin file in the Diagnosis Area so that I can check this.
Here's the link to my current settings file.

What's even stranger is that I just opened the original extended settings file and the extra activity tabs were all there. So I don't understand how I could have done something which made them vanish.
I then put this original extender file on the remote and everything is still there. This is getting a bit strange, maybe user error again I'm really not sure how I got those tabs to vanish in my current settings file
Somehow the default entries for the extra activities were missing. Is this a file that you modified with the faulty installation of RMIR? That might have done it, as we don't know what was wrong with it. Otherwise, I can think of no way that RMIR acting correctly could have deleted these entries, whatever the user might have done. I feel sure that faulty software rather than user error must have been to blameJezW wrote:What was wrong with it before?
