I am beginning to suspect that the Master button has had it, since all other functions seem to work just fine.
Have you ever tried opening the remote and cleaning the POWER button? If not, it might be worth a try. You can clean the PCB itself with rubbing alcohol or electrical contact cleaner. You can clean the rubber button sheet with water and maybe soap, but don't use solvents on it.
I recently overhauled my 15-2116 remote by doing all of the above, and now it works great.
This probably won't be the case for you, but on older remotes there is sometimes a coating of some sort that builds up on the button contacts, probably oxidization or something like that. When this happens, you can scrap the traces clean with a small screwdriver. I did this recently on a remote that is maybe 15 years old, and when I tried it afterwards it was as good as new.

Thanks. Is there any way to tell whether the keys of the old beloved 8820 indeed have, indeed, bit the dust?
Common sense says that if the batteries are fresh, and the recieving devices work fine with otehr remotes, it must be the 8820 buttons, but I am in denial...
BTW-- where can I get the 8820N?

I doubt that they've "bit the dust" but they may need some TLC. I recommend that you open 'er up and try cleaning them.
Thanks-- it works!

Thanks, Rob-- I opened the remote, cleaned the contacts, and it all works just fine now. I noticed some moisture on the rubber buttons, which i cleaned and dried, and it is now as good as new. My biggest problem was closing it up-- I don't think they meant for mere mortals to open these cheap devices, but I managed after some futzing with it.
Thanks again!

Funnily enough, I have no trouble getting them back together again, it's just opening them that requires some skills, especially the URC-8820, URC-6131n, etc.

I must have damaged some of the tiny plastic parts that hold it together in my too-violent opening. Anyway, it's great to know that one can repair these things-- they are cheap enough, but reprogramming a new one would be a chore.

Not if you've saved your IR file!

Well, it has been over a week and I haven't had my original problem happen again. It was weird that it happened twice in one day and then not again, but oh well, definitely not complaining.
