Ran into this thread as I was working to get my remote set up for a new HTPC I am working on. I had found the MCE Remote Device upgrade and was working with it but hoping not to have to mess with ToadTogs if possible so these discrete on and off codes were interesting. My experience with them on my system is as follows for whatever use it is to anyone:

- If the PC is on and I put it to sleep with the the power command, then only the power command will wake it up again, the discrete on will not.

- If the PC is on and I put it to sleep with the discrete off, then only the discrete on will wake it up, the power command will not.

- If the PC is completely turned off, only the discrete on will start it up, the power command will not.

- If I only use the discrete on and off commands, the PC will go to sleep and wake up correctly as well as starting from the off state.

I certainly cannot explain this behavior but the bottom line is the discrete on and off work together for my configuration and thus from a practical standpoint I don't care about the somewhat strange interaction of those commands with the power command.

My system is a ASRock Core100HT. In device manager I have Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver and a Nuvoton W836x7HG CIR device which I believe are the IR receiver components.
