JP1 Remotes

Have you been able to use EFC 00247 to get the volume to change? It is important to verify that your EFC testing procedure works, and by testing EFC 00247, whcih corresponds to a function that we know works (since the 365 responds to pressing the volume + button), you can be sure.

Just so I'm clear on this point, did you check 00087, 00149, and 00153?

Do any of the EFCs above cause any response from the 365?

Initially, I thought that 00247 was successfully changing the volume.

Further testing indicates that it only causes the current volume to display.
However, if I manage to punch in setup-00247 again before the receiver's display reverts back to normal, the volume does increase. (-39db -> -38db -> -37db).

I have tried 00087, 00149, 00153, 00246, 00248, and 00250 for the power/standby from both a device on and a device off state.

If it's tricky to type in the code fast enough to test it, you should assign the code to a button and then test it.

Like this...

1) Press and hold SETUP, 2 flashes
2) Type 994, 2 flashes
3) Press (don't hold) SETUP
4) Type in the 5-digit EFC (eg, 00247)
5) Press a button, 2 flashes

(Note: the button pressed in step 5 will now send the 00247 code when it's pressed).

Have you programmed some functions by programming 5-digit EFCs? If so, that would confirm that you know how to do it. If you haven't, can you confirm what steps you are using it either test or program the EFC5s.

Could you also confirm that you have tried the following EFC5s:

00248 - power on
00246 - power off
00250 - power on/off toggle

and

00087 - Power On/Standby
00149 - Sleep
00153 - Power

Also, can you confirm if you're using "Zones"? If you have to ask what they are, it probably means that you're not using them.

Yes, I can enter 5 digit EFCs correctly. Summarizing my previous post. I have entered the 00247 code to change the volume ( first time displays current volume, second time changes). And I have tried all six codes you listed from both a device on and a device off state with no reaction.

Finally, I have entered some random codes and had the device react in a suitably random (but consistent) manner.

Well, I checked again, and EFCs 00149 and 00153 should give responses from the receiver. However (I didn't notice this before, sorry), 00087 won't work, because the device number for the Power On/Standby function is 126 rather than 122, the typical device number for Yamaha receivers.

As far as I can see, an Atlas can't send device 126, without using a JP1 cable to upload an upgrade.

Setup codes Audio 0376, 1476, 1976, and 1815 are capable of sending Power On/Standby, but the Atlas doesn't carry those setup codes.

Power On/Standby is NEC1, device 126, function number (OBC) 42
Sleep is NEC1, device 122, OBC 48, EFC 00149
Power is NEC1, device 122, OBC 49, EFC 00153

I know that you have said that you know what you are doing, but when directly typing in an EFC are you HOLDING that last button? i.e. you press (and release) Setup-0-0-2-4 and then press AND HOLD 7?

An excellent question. No I had not been. Holding the 7 down does make the volume change.

That said however, I think 3FG is on the right track for my solution.

RCA RCRP05B has those codes and is very similar to atlas. It's $7 shipped on ebay at the moment or $20 at walgreens and best buy. It's by far a better remote than the atlas, especially if you don't have a cable.

I'm not sure if the RCA is better or not, but it sure is prettier. I like my Atlases but this summer I'm going to break open a bunch of cases and spray paint them!

Well, I did have a ceveat. I said especially if you have no cable.

For one thing it's learning, which most atlases aren't (that's enough to make it far better in my book). The setup button isn't recessed. It does device specific macros and has better channel and vol lock options (device specific instead of global). It also has about 100 more setup codes, including the one the OP needs.

With a cable, the atlas gets the nod for having an extender. But even without an extender you can give the RCA pause, multiplex and fast macros. Plus you get 3 extra phantom devices, which the atlas lacks.

I'm a little fuzzy on whether or not you can put your own macro on the atlas power button without JP1 tools, but I know you can do it on the RCA.

Features aside, there are probably at least a couple of stores in just about any US city you can walk in to and buy the RCA, and they're easy to find online too. You can only get atlases from ebay or your cable company.

Looks are subjective, but the RCA looks better IMO, and the transport controls are nicer too in a circle all to themselves.
