I am pretty confident that if you get your interface board working with either of IR8.04 or RMIR then it will work with both.

My PC installs 2 X LPT ports, I think one is a standard port and the other is a high speed one I tried both

Unfortunately no. The error messages are basically repeating what you asked for. The first Port Name entry Port Name = 3FF0 is the port you asked for. The second one, Port Name = NULL, shows it was not found.

Those messages come from RMIR. To go further, we need error messages from jp1parallel.dll, which is called from RMIR but not part of it. To get these, you need DebugView. This is a free Microsoft program that you can download here. If you have DebugView open when running RMIR then it will display a lot of messages. What we want is only messages related to the parallel port, so use Edit > Clear Display (or the Clear icon on the toolbar) before you start a download attempt and then copy the text displayed when the attempt ends and paste it into Notepad or similar, save it as a text file and post it for me to see.

The RemoteIf_check tests if the interface is working. It returns 0000 if it is. So the high speed port seems to be working. That check is part of a routine called checkPort. The final test in that check is to read the remote signature. This is what fails. I found a post about parallel ports that said that you have to remove the batteries for the remote to be recognised. If you have not done so, could you please try that.

Edit: The "If" in RemoteIf stands for InterFace, not as in "If ... Then".
Edit2: Number of chars returned = FFFB is an error code denoting I/O error.

Any other suggestions? I even tried older batteries i remember a post about battery voltage.

Have you tried all those cases with RMIR and also with IR.exe v8.04? In that thread, a user seems to have a remote that works with IR v8.04 but not with RMIR, but the thread ends without the user providing the DebugView results that I asked for and so the issue was never resolved.

As far as I can tell from your DebugView results, JP1Parallel gets as far as sending a read request to the InpOutx64.dll which returns I/O error. We have no way that I am aware of, of getting further diagnostics from that dll. So if none of those cases work then at present I have no further suggestions. However, I don't go as far back as JP1 remotes and parallel cables, so perhaps Rob has further ideas.

Have you checked the port setting to see if it has
"Enable Legacy Plug and Play detection" if it does try checking it
also some windows forums have stated that this setting might revert back after a computer Restart so it can be tricky maybe test it before and after a Restart

Thanks for this, yes I have tried all of your suggestions including the "Enable Legacy detection" unfortunately its the same using IR804.exe and RMIR no remotes found.

Sounds like I've come to the end of the road with my configuration?

I think I ran into a problem awhile back with arduino
that changing the port speed solved

You must be thinking of the serial port, both parallel ports don't provide option for speed. However IR804 has setting for transmission speed, I have tried that too

It must be a windows 11 thing, I have even tried setting my compatibility to windows 7/8, and executed as an admin.

You might like to try this Parallel Port Tester that I found by a web search. I know nothing about it but it is probably more thorough than the testing that the JP1Parallel dll does.

I have also found when the 64-bit support for parallel interfaces was added to RMIR. In this thread from March 2018 I wrote:

I have now posted files for 64-bit JP1Parallel support on RMIR. These are a tidied-up version of the test files that g.c.martin tested and found to work with 64-bit Java on Windows 10. The package also includes the 32-bit compilation that should work with 32-bit Java on either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, but this is untested. This support follows that provided by IR.exe v8.04 in that it uses this InpOut package for the actual communication with the parallel port.

That thread includes the post where gcmartin (his username) raises the issue of lack of JP1Parallel support on 64-bit systems, which led me to develop it, but he gives no info about his system other than it being 64-bit Windows 10. So I don't know whether his parallel port was built-in or an extension card. You may be the first person to test it on an extension card. I am sorry that it seems not to work.

No worries, I appreciate the help received thus far.....I tried the parallel tester, to be honest I'm not sure what I'm looking for. In saying that I had no errors.

Now I have this cable which i have used to debrick my router, it looks like some of the cables mentioned on this forum. Will this work? only problem I cant seem to find pinout configuartion.

Ive managed to find some pinouts and i have connected then up but still it doesnt find remote...it does seem to that its doing something as the led flashes. These are he reference posts im refering to the pinouts, I could be completely wrong

With the pinout connected as in the first link with the 6pin connected using IR804 i get a JP12 read failed 0
