New accounts now need to be activated by me

Post by The Robman »

Just FYI, as the spam bots are adding new accounts in an increasing number, I have just changed the new accounts setting so they now need to be activated by me.

Yeah, but here's what I have to do with each spammer:
1) get their IP address
2) get their email address
3) ban both the email and IP address
4) get their userid
5) delete the user
6) delete the thread or post

Of course, this doesn't mean that I'm going to spot each spammer before I activate them. Basically, if they have crap in most of the fields, as the recent spammers have had, I'll delete them, likewise if they link to a selling website.

It is a sad state of affairs, when the spammers out number the real users signing up for the forum. Imagine if it had been that way when the first 10,000 users signed up! Sheesh.
