Where to buy a JP1 Remote
There are many remotes listed in the RemoteChart.xls file, but where can a new person buy a JP1.3 remote. One-For-All no longer sells many of the URC- remotes listed. I found a 15-100 Radio Shack remote, but then noticed that the connector was not male and needed an adapter. Where would I buy an adapter that will work with cables available for sale. (DIYGADGET- Flash USB Cable ) The file also said this remote has the connector under the batteries, making it hard to connect. What would have to be done and how hard is it. Thanks for any help you can provide a newbie.
The 15-100 mod is fairly difficult. There is no adapter that makes the job any easier. Not worth the effort IMO. HERE's how, if you want to give it a shot. Already modified 15-100s pop up here in the marketplace forum now and then.
Here are the most common current JP1.3 remote sources in the US that I know of. All listed have pins, except the 15-100:
- RCA RCRP05B - $15 at Sears, Amazon, $20 at Best Buy, Walgreens
- URC 8820N, 10820N - $15-$20 online, some still available on clearance at Sears
- Radio Shack 15-133, 134, 135, 100 - very limited availability on clearance at Radio Shack for $1-$5
- Atlas OCAP - around $8 on ebay
- Insignia - $20 at MCMElectronics.com
The RCA and Insignia are my current personal favorites. Altases are popular too.
Tommy Tyler's cable are far and away the best. I'm grateful DIYGadget makes and sells cables, but they're not my top choice.

+1 for the Insignia/Sanyo remote. See this thread.
+100 for Tommy's cables and adapters. I wouldn't buy from anyone else.

Thanks all for the fast replies and good info. I found a remote on ebay.
Sounds like Tommy is the man for the USB cable.
