Changing TV Aspect Ratio in DVD Mode

I would like to be able to change the Samsung TV Aspect Ratio while in the Sony DVD Mode since some DVDs can have different aspects. I have the discrete Samsung codes to do it or could use Format button. Can I do this with a key move? The two devices have different protocols.

The IR file is basically the same as last time...

I just recently got one of those wide screen tv's and I don't know how you could possibly watch it without that button on almost all modes.

Getting my aspect ratio onto both DVD and CBL mode were the two most important keymove I made.


Getting the remote to work with the minimum amount of changing modes is really important for me. That's one of the best things about these little remotes.

I tend to like the format button, because its easier to use. I just cycle through them unitil I get the people to not look so fat! If I had to remember 4 buttons I think it would get to be too difficult.

I find i never change my tv's aspect ratio/ format. It's a samsung wide screen dlp

In this discussion it may matter what type of connection you use. I use hdmi and dvi.

My sat box/DVR and DVD players are set to add black bars for non-wide content and my tv is set to wide. This way nothing is ever stretched. I refuse to watch channels that broadcast stretched content and claim it is wide/HD.

We have Sony and Vizio TVs which are fed by Comcast or DVD or Blu-ray players. Video signals can include 480P, 720P, 1080i. We never seem to need to adjust aspect ratio.

Is this something related OTA broadcasts?

Yes, you can do it with keymoves.
I have Toshiba TV. Usually OTA, sometimes via cable. They say it adjusts itself, but I don't see it, so I have to press it all the time to change.
Here's an example from RCRP05B remote which has a button called "Aspect" (likewise Atlas). Two keymoves:

PicSize on my TV is a toggle that goes round and round the 7 or so options, so I just press it several times till people aren't fat and the screen looks ok to me.

Nope, I find myself having to adjust the zoom on some of the programs recorded by my Time Warner DVR. Most typically, I encounter the problem with widescreen 16:9 cartoons on HD channels. And usually, it's due to the carelessness (or cluelessness) by certain cable networks.

I've seen widescreen 'toons broadcast with black bars on top and bottom (like a non-anamorphic DVD transfer). I've also seen 'toons with black bars on all four sides! And while my DVR has a zoom adjustment that can fix one of these two problems, I have to appeal to my TV's aspect zoom to fix the other.

This turned out to be simpler that I first thot.
First I made sure that the Format button was free on the devices (Dish, DVD, and PVR) that I wanted to use. A couple of tweaks in RM did that with no problem.
Then I just made the required Keymoves in IR, picking each device and the TV mode discrete command to put on the Format button.
Works like a charm. Thanks to all who commented and made suggestions.
