Help with some rare components

I seem to have a knack for owning the unpopular electronics devices. I have managed to work through most of the newbie issues, but these are beyond me as of now:

I have an Arcam receiver (see post right below this one) and there are discrete codes posted at Remote Central in pronto format here. Unfortunately, IRTool doesn't like these, so I am hoping someone can help me determine what the OBC or EFC is.

Similarly, I have a Samsung 241mp TV/monitor for which I would like discrete codes. It uses a SAMSUNG20 protocol (according to IR.exe) which KM does not support. Thankfully, I was able to adapt a SyncMaster-170mp file with user-defined protocol to get the basics working, but once again, IRTool can't read the Pronto code.

My hope is that I can get the discrete codes by building a ccf file and using one of the other tools available to convert it to efc, but I figure I'll ask for help before I try to learn to use Pronto tools when I don't even own a pronto remote.

That format of Pronto Hex is understood only by DecodeCCF, not by Irtool nor ccf2efc. Those signals are in CCF files at RC in addition to being posted as text, so it would be possible to use DecodeCCF, but it isn't necessary.

That's the easiest format for an expert to simply see the decode without program help.

It's RC5 protocol, device 16, OBC number 124 (Off) and 123 (On)

Are you sure your TV uses SAMSUNG20 protocol? If so, are you sure it uses the discretes on that page you linked?

Those discretes are in NECx2 protocol. That is the protocol Samsung seems to use most.

I don't know why Irtool would have any problem with NECx2. The copy of Irtool I use certainly has no trouble with those discretes (but I still don't have time to clean up and post the Irtool I use).

Assuming your TV does use SAMSUNG20 and not NECx2, post some details and I'll check my collection of CCF files for matching signals. Those CCFs might include discrete codes.

(It's also possible the device responds to two different protocols, so you might try the posted discretes in an upgrade for NECx2).

Mark, are you sure you have the JP1 version of IRTool, and if so, do you have the current DecodeIR.dll? My version of IRTool had no problem decoding that Pronto code, and like John said, it's the NECx2 protocol, device code 7.

Definitely SAMSUNG20 for most (maybe all) operations. I think this is because it is a computer monitor foremost, TV secondary, so they don't want it sharing signals if you put it in a room with a Samsung TV.

For the most part it is identical to the Samsung_synch_master-170 file in the device_codes/tv section of yahoo group. That file doesn't have discrete codes though, and I have read the warnings about searching for them on a TV. Do you think BestBuy would mind if I walked in with a remote and started trying to turn off one of their floor models lol.

Next time, hit the BACK button and you'll find your text still there. Then just select it and "copy" it, then refresh the page and paste it back in.

Anyway, I took a look at the Samsung20 file that you mentioned and compared the OBCs to another Sansung TV file that uses the NECx2 protocol with the 7 device code and they are different, so it doesn't look likely that you can use those discrete codes you found with this set.

If you're feeling brave, you could go fishing for them if you want, but you might want to do some research elsewhere to see if anyone has stumbled over a RESET code from which they couldn't recover from first.
