I have searched the forums and have seen issues with programming the power button on the RCA RCRP05B remote. In IR.exe, I have tried key moves and a macro on the power button and can't get it to work. I have also tried clearing the master power lock (9 9 5) without any success. Currently, I have a power button macro assigned to another button, but would prefer to have the macro assigned to the real power button.
Basically, is it even possible to assign a macro to the power button? I want to assign a macro that simply calls the power button to one or more devices, and none of the devices I want to call the power button on is assigned to the cable device.
Any help would be apprecieated. Thanks.

Use shift-power in your macros (shift cloaking). Otherwise the macro is just calling itself, which won't work without an extender. In that case you need a way to exit the loop. If that doesn't work, post your file.
One common approach is to put power on macros on shifted device buttons and master power off on the shifted power button. otherwise things can get complicated and confusing.

Hmmm... I just did a few tests myself. You're right, shift cloaking (using shift-power instead of power in macros) doesn't work. Sorry about that. I guess it only works with an extender. I could put any macro I wanted on the Power button, but it only works in CBL mode. To get power inside the macro, just put the EFC for power on a keymove like phantom1 and use that in the macro. DSM's won't even work on the power button. I suggest you do the next best thing and put your macro on shift-power. Then it will work in every mode.
If an extender is written for this remote, this limitation will go away. Until then, you'll have to work around it.

I'm confused by the original post. I believe that you can (manually or with IR) assign a macro to the Power button uisng 995 (and not 978). In spite of being assigned using the device independent 995 command, it will only be invoked in Cable device mode. It is also possible to clear the macro so that the Power key does nothing in Cable device mode.
Using an interface cable, it is possible to assign keymoves to Power in any device mode.

I have tried key moves in ir and cleared using 995. Didn't actually try to assign anything with the 995 command because I wanted to do all programming through ir. After reading remote instructions, it looks like setting through 995 works only when device is selected to cable. Unless an extender is made for it, I have just assigned the power functionality to the on demand button.
It would be nice if an extender would be written though. Not just for the power functionality. I don't like the fact that my power macro ends up changing the selected device.
