8810w & DVDR75: JP1 the only way?

Just got an 8810w and would like to program for my Philips DVDR75.
Tried all codes I could find to no avail. And 4 learning buttons just isn't enough.
About to order a JP1 cable, but just wanted to check and see if anyone had any more info in the meantime.

Even though the manual says there are only 4 learning buttons, you can learn to many more buttons on the remote. However, you will likely run out of learning memory before you manage to program all of your device(s).

It's doubtful that you'll be able to do anything about controlling the DVDR75 without getting a JP1 cable. With a JP1 cable, you'd be able to utilize the upgrade files in the Yahoo group. You may find someone has already figured out your device. If not, then the JP1 cable will allow you to analyze the learned signals and turn them into a much more compact upgrade.

There are several upgrade files for Philips DVD recorders in the file section. These indicate that this device uses the RC-6 protocol with a device code of 48. That corresponds to a UEI setup code of DVD/0646, but unfortunately, that code is not present in the URC-8810w, but with JP1 you will be able to add it.

It is present in both the URC-6131 and the URC-9960 though.

So do I teach via the same instructions as the "L" buttons using other buttons instead? Also, I tried adding functions using the 9-9-4 code (didn't work). How do I delete those to get memory back?

If you just want to start over, you should do a 981 reset, that will erase all learned commands and key moves (994 programmed commands).

To delete keymoves one at a time, do this...

1) Press the device button
2) press and hold SET, two flashes
3) type 994, two flashes
4) press the button to be cleared twice, two flashes

I have the RS 2117 and and DVDR75 and I used the device file for the DVDR985 (since the commands are the same). This particular file is actually for the 8910, which is almost identical to the 8810w.

I wouold get a JP1 cable and use the above file. It will do everything you need it to do.

OK. Finally got my cable but no luck so far.
I tried using that DVDR985 file and all the buttons were mapped incorrectly (I think Power was only correct one).
Also tried DVD/0646, protocol RC-6, code 48 and that didn't work at all (No working functions. The Device Upgrade Code I got from RemoteMaster and pasted into IR was alot shorter than the one that came from that DVDR985 file so that's probably a clue as to why.)
Also tried Learning and that didn't work (never got proper LED confirmations).

Anyway, any more ideas? Or do I just have to create a file from scratch?

When you say you tried using the file, do you mean you did the following:

Launched Excel
Loaded the Keymap Master spreadsheet.
Used KM's Load function to load the DVDR985 file
Changed the remote type to 8811/8810?

If you didn't do all of those things (and tried using the device upgrade contained within the text file), that would explain why the buttons were messed up.

If you did these things are the buttons are still wrong, you can use buttons tab in KM to change what functions are assigned to which buttons.

Did you remember to change the remote to your model before copying the upgrade code over to IR? Was there Protocol Code that needed to be copied as well?

Remember, upgrade code from one model remote will NOT work in another.

You CANNOT use the code from that file in an 8810w (or any other remote) unless you first open it in KM and change the Remote to the proper model, and then copy the code over to IR.

FYI, Philips released new firmware for the DVDR75(and most other models), which, for the DVDR75, finally adds the 8x FF/RW, to go with the 4x and 32x, already present.

Sorry, not directly remote related, but this firmware release is useful.
