When I load the .rdmu file an error message box pops up headed "Unknown Remote", telling me that: "The upgrade file you are loading is for the remote "RS 15-2104 6-In-One AV". Please choose the best match from the list below". In the list below are listed only the two remotes I have - URC7556 and URC7781. I select the URC7556, the error box goes away and RM shows my URC-7556 on the second line of the screen along with the fixed data "8E 04".

Now for the good bit! I expand the second line of RM to show me the two remotes I have in my RDF directory; I select my other remote, URC7781, which brings up a "Lost Functions Assignment" window; I immediately close this window and now find 95 30 55 65 in the Fixed Data box; reselecting the URC-7756 leaves the Fixed Data box unchanged at 95 35 55 65. There is no longer any protocol required and I now am able to produce a working IR file!

Sorry for rambling on, but as far as I knew RM was set up correctly with my URC-7556 showing in the window. As I've now found out RM was not quite set up correctly - possibly a bug there?

Thanks to everyone who replied, especially Vicky and 3FG. I thought I was going to have to give up. These last 2 messages prompted me to do what I described above, thus fixing the problem.

Okay, we had some bad documentation way back when that said to download the RDF's you need. But all that documentation was written before RM and RDMU files came into play. When you are opening other peoples RDMU's you need to have the list of RDF's so that RM can figure out what data it is reading.

You need ALL THE RDFS AND IMAGES!!!!!
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

Quoting from RM's Readme, in Getting Started
Note: You must have RDFs for all supported remotes in order for RM to work correctly when importing or loading device upgrades that were created for remotes other than the one(s) you will be using.

Okay - thanks Vicky and gfb107 - that is noted. I will reorganize my directories, which should make life a bit simpler for me in future!
