Creating IR signals to unlock USB port on LG TVs

I found this site that can activate the usb port on an lg lcd tv using a smartphone. Sadly the smartphone software is free for only 10 days but if i can use a one for all remote it will last for ever(hopefully). As i don't have a smartphone without infra red the one for all remote is my only option rather than spend more money on another tv.

This site explains how to do it but the codes they give are 3 and 5 digits.

This is for all Universal Remotes to easily access the service menus EZ Adjust & In Start with existing firmware.

Remotes - Any Universal Remote that can send NEC 1 device 4 codes on the fly : Eg. All One for All/Radio Shack universal remotes.

Codes: For older remotes whcih use 3 digit Extended Functional Codes (EFCs)
1] EZ_Adjust = 018
2] IN_Start = 019

For Newer remotes which use 5 digit EFCs

1] EZ_Adjust = 00018
2] IN_Start = 00019

Procedure for all One for All universal remotes:

PRESS TV mode -> PRESS MAGIC/SETUP BUTTON ONCE -> ENTER EFC

All other NEC1 device 4 conforming universal remotes please refer to the user manual to execute these codes on the fly. Users feel free to add for specific brands

The LG LCD LH series have a USB port that is designated only for service use by LG. By sending two codes, you can add a new menu on your TV called USB. In simple terms your LCD TV becomes an HD media player.
You can even connect your external hard drive and watch movies from it.

With a UEI remote that is capable of sending EFCs, Extended Function Codes, you can perform this hack. This would include most "One for All" remotes, Many Radio Shack remotes, 15-100, 15-133, 15-134. 15-135, and MANY OEM Cable remotes

You first need to find a setup code that sends a Nec1 device 4 signal. You can then send and the EFC by doing a short press of the Setup key, which might be called [SET],[P],[Magic] followed by the EFC for EZ menu, and then repeat that procedure for the EZ In_Start EFC you should be good to go.

And to answer the next question, which setup codes use NEC1-dev 4, the main ones are TV/0030 and TV/0178, as those are in almost every remote.

If you have a remote that doesn't have either of those setup codes, you can either use the Lookup Tool to find another setup code, or just post back here with the model number of your remote and we'll let you know if there's an alternative code that you can use.

Is it possible to activate usb with a ucr7525 remote? I tried to send codes after pressing magic button but it doesnt seems to work. Magic button is used to switch between TV and SAT. Am I missing something? I am totaly new to this

I think you mean URC-7525.
I Googled ucr7525, and another, more informative post of yours showed up. In that post you said that you tried setup code 11265. However, the URC-7525 does not have this setup code. Instead you could use 10178.

To assign a setup code:
1) Press Magic until 2 blinks
2) Enter 10178
The remote should blink twice to indicate that it has accepted the setup code.

Next,

1) Press Magic briefly
2) Enter 00018 or 00019

Ah, yes URC-7525.

And Ive tried a lot of codes now. Some of them, like 10178, let me control the TV. So far so good.

When I press the Magic button to send the code (00018) in the next step it seems that the remote switches from TV to SAT control. And that about it.
I dont think it possible to send EFCs with this remote, at least not with the magic button.

We have some information about the 7525 here, and it appears that it is a 2 device remote (TV and SAT), with somewhat limited capabilities compared to most OneForAll remotes.

However, it has been reported here that the remote supports keymoves.

That means that you can semi-permanently assign an EFC to a button. So choose two buttons (e.g. Vol+ and Vol-) to assign the 00018 and 00019 EFCs to. Then, with setup code 10178, and in TV mode, do the following steps:
1) Press Magic until 2 blinks
2) Enter 994 (the remote should blink twice)
3) Press Magic briefly
4) Enter 00018
5) Press Vol+
The remote should blink twice to indicate that it accepted the EFC.

Repeat using 00019 and Vol- (or other buttons-- but stay away from buttons which only make sense for SAT--they may not work in TV mode.)
Now anytime you press Vol+, the remote will send the EZ-Adjust signal.


If you would like to restore the remote to normal:
1) Press Magic until 2 blinks
2) Enter 994 (the remote should blink twice)
3) Press Magic briefly
4) Press Vol+
5) Press Vol+ (yes, twice)
Should get two blinks.

I just recently picked up an LG 55LH40 and I was looking to do the same hack to enable video from USB.

Will this remote work and do I follow the same steps as above for the 7225?

You must have edited your post since I last looked at it. The urc-8820 comes in two flavors the urc-8820 b00 and the urc-8820n. Both are capable of doing the hack.

I didn't check out what you found at RadioShack, but the known RadioShack JP1 remotes have been discontinued so its going to be difficult to find a UEI manufactured RadioShack remote.

The URC-8820N (your first link) will work just fine. In fact, it is a very good remote for more than just enabling the USB!

The Radio Shack remote will not work.

Both versions of the 8820 have TV/0178 code built in. The instructions you are referencing uses 5 digit setup codes 10178, but your remote only uses 4 digits. 0178.

Your Set key is the Magic key.

So follow the instructions in the manual to setup TV code 0178 and then follow the keymove instructions.
