Shifted Keys It is possible to store two commands on one button by using the SHIFT key. The SETUP button acts as a shift key. When programming individual buttons, whether by learning or by using advanced codes, if you TAP SETUP before selecting the button where the command will be assigned, the function will be stored on the shifted version of the button. Then when you wish to use the button, TAP SETUP before you TAP the button. Shifted keys can be used for learned commands, commands programmed using advanced codes and for macros.

NOTE: Shifted numeric keys:

Program functions to shifted numeric keys using the procedure outlined above, but to actually use the shifted function you must TAP the SETUP button twice before TAPing the numeric key, otherwise the remote thinks you are about to enter an advanced code.

Channel Lock 973 - Locks channel control to specific device

TAP CBL once
PRESS and HOLD Setup until CBL blinks twice
Release setup
Enter 973
TAP ch- once to deactivate, ch+ then device key to activate
4 blinks when deactivates, 2 blinks when activates
Deactivated=channel, Enter, Last and numbers can be used by all devices
Activated=channel, Enter, Last and numbers always go to selected device (CBL is default active)

Cable mode lock 982 - Lock/unlock device button

6. TAP 3, carefully COUNT the number of blinks. (3rd digit)
7. TAP 4, carefully COUNT the number of blinks. (4th digit)

If the remote DOES NOT blink it means the number is 0.
This is your signature code.

Ah we're missing an important one, the 997 modem upgrade command.

I KNEW that I had tried to list all of these somewhere once before, but couldn't find them. HERE is that very sketchy list.

991 - Code Search
990 - Blink Back
992 - Redefine Device Key
993 - Volume Punch through
970 - Activate Sleep Key
995 - Program macro
996 - Set up Favorite Channel Scan
994 - KeyMove
975 - Learn
976 - Delete Learn
980 - Ops Reset
981 - Manufacturer's Reset
973/974 - Clear "Scrambled Remote"

The ones not previously mentioned are bolded above. I note that the 973/974 - Clear Scrambled Remote conflicts with the "Channel Lock" function mentioned in the first post.

I assembled all of the above info in a spreadsheet and uploaded it here.

Some Commands are described pretty vaguely so if anybody has better insights or clearer explanations, please post them and I will update the spreadsheet.

The RCA RCRP05B handles the 993 Volume Punch Through and 973 Channel Lock commands differently. It has the capabilty to assign the Volume group (Vol+, Vol-, mute) of any device to any other device button(s). Similarly it can assign the Channel group (CH+/-, digits, Last) to any device button(s). Note that the instruction sheet provided with the remote is wrong.

Volume Punch Thru 993 -- lock all devices to one VPT device.
1. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
2. TAP 9 - 9 - 3. Two blinks.
3. TAP Vol+
4. TAP the VPT device button. Two blinks of the selected device.

To unlock volume control for all devices:
1. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
2. TAP 9 - 9 - 3. Two blinks.
3. TAP VOL-. Four blinks.

To assign the Volume group of one device to a set of devices.
1. TAP the device button of the desired Volume group
2. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
3. TAP 9 - 9 - 3. Two blinks
4. TAP each device button in the set of devices to be reassigned
5. TAP Setup. Two blinks of the VPT device.

For example, Setup, 993, Vol+, CBL. Now pressing Vol in any device mode causes the CBL Volume command to be sent.

Second example: AUD, Setup, 993, DVD, CBL, TV, Setup. Now pressing Vol while in DVD, CBL, or TV mode will send the AUD Vol commands. But in AUD or DVR mode, the Cable volume commands will be sent.

Channel Lock 973 -- lock all devices to one ChLock device.
1. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
2. TAP 9 - 7 - 3. Two blinks.
3. TAP Ch+
4. TAP the ChLock device button. Two blinks of the selected device.

To unlock Channel Lock for all devices:
1. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
2. TAP 9 - 7 - 3. Two blinks.
3. TAP Ch-. Four blinks.

To assign the ChLock group of one device to a set of devices.
1. TAP the device button of the desired ChLock group
2. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
3. TAP 9 - 7 - 3. Two blinks
4. TAP each device button in the set of devices to be reassigned
5. TAP Setup. Two blinks of the ChLock device.

972 Send Power signal when TV or CBL device mode buttons are pressed.
1) Press Setup until 2 blinks.
2) Enter 972 (2 blinks)
3) Tap Ch+ to enable sending Power (2 blinks)
or
3) Tap Ch- to disable (4 blinks)

BTW, Cap'n Trips, it will make your spreadsheet more accessible if you save it in one of the older Office formats rather than the default Office 2007 format. Microsoft does have a downloadable converter plug-in that can switch xlsx format to xls format, but it doesn't always install smoothly.

Now there is an understatement!

great find.

i used hte EFC commands to fix it so my volume key sends just a volume command and NOT a cable box command.

There is another form of the 994 command which I didn't know about before reading this post by Rob.

1) Hold Setup until 2 blinks
2) Type 994 (2 blinks)
3) Tap the FROM device mode button
4) Tap Setup
5) Enter the EFC (3 or 5 digits)
6) Tap the TO device mode button
7) Tap the button to assign the EFC to
The remote should blink twice.

This is similar to the non-EFC keymove command, but it is possible to replace the FROM button by the sequence of Setup and the EFC digits. This method is useful when assigning, for example, a TV EFC for use in Cable mode. Previously I have been having people temporarily assign the TV setup code to the Cable button, which is pretty involved on a cable remote.

I also like Rob's use of Tap rather than Press. I usually tell people to "Press briefly", but it seems that Tap is simpler.

Uh..that exact procedure is (and has been) listed in the first post of this thread. But thanks for reinforcing.

There are two 994 listings in the first post. The first one shows how to copy a key from one button to another, and that one does include the device button steps. The second one shows how to program a button using an EFC, but that one doesn't show how to do it across device buttons, that's what Dave didn't know you could do.

OK, I see the distinction, but it would appear to be pretty implicit that if the target button was in a different device mode, one would precede it with the applicable Device button, as in the previous example. I can see, however, where on would not necessarily infer that.

Regardless, I believe that nobody reads beyond the first post, in general, so posting that procedure way down the thread won't help. Can an admin edit the first post? ..or provide in the first post a link to the spreadsheet I linked in the fourth post (which I just updated to accommodate that distinction)?
