Problem with IR 8.00

Post by kdp99 »

Hi All

I Have been using IR 6.20 for a while. I loaded an upgrade and got an error message Index out of bounds (although it still seemed to work OK).

So I moved to IR 8.00. The index out of bounds message still appears, but in addition with IR 8.00, after the first use, when I tell it the RDF directory (used most up to date), the device buttons area of the general tab vanish, and all I get is the general notes area, but the devices are still there under the devices tab ?

Any ideas

We won't be able to help unless we can replicate your situation, so if you have an IR file that always gets these issues when you open it, please post it. If this only happens when you try to add a specific upgrade, please post that.

In addition to the IR file, it would also be helpful to know what operating system, and screen resolution you are using.

Also when you downloaded the new RDF's did you start with a clean RDF directory?

Step 1: click on the file section link at the top of the page.
Step 2: click on the Diagnosis Area folder
Step 3: click on the Upload button

I have uploaded three files.

Problem.doc - images and description of the problem. Within this document I refer to a ir and and upgrade file by name, these named files are also uploaded, all in the diagnosis area.

Many thanks

I guess I should have added one more step...

Step 4: post links to the file(s) here, so we don't have to go searching for them

I think I've found all of the files that kdp99 posted (but I don't have time to look at them right now). kdp99, please check that I found them all.

Hi, kdp99. I see that in your screenshot, the Device Buttons tab shows a device type of '<ERROR>'. I get this too if I load your .ir file. If I then change the device type and code to a valid one, the 'Index out of bounds' error disappears. It seems that your .ir file is in some way corrupt. Even so, IR should not fail in this way, it should give a meaningful error message. I will look into this.

The problem with IR losing the tabs suggests that you are using Windows 98SE, as this problem has been seen before with that Windows version. It is corrected in IR8.01 Development Build 0. Please try that and see if this solves that particular problem. Whether it does so or not, please post here what your Windows version actually is, and let us know if my suggestions solved your problems or not.

Yes, I found that <Error> too. If I don't fix that error before trying to add that new device IR 8 becomes totally unresponsive.

I found that the device upgrades look really odd.

I've never, ever seen devices that show the button keys as
0
(
2
3
T8
5
6
7
)
9

This may indicate a corruption of the RDF's on my machine, but it does appear really odd.

Sorry, on re-reading your posting I think I misunderstood what your problem with the General page is. I still think IR8.01 Development Build 0 solves it, but it isn't the Win98SE-specific issue I thought at first. If this IR8.01 doesn't solve it, please read the first problem reported here. I now think that is what you are seeing, and the solution for IR 8.00 is given in that thread.

Vicky, I think you are using an old RDF file for the URC-8550. That remote, by sheer chance, is the one I had before my URC-7781. I tried IR with it before I became a registered IR user and got this weird button list. I almost gave up on IR at that point as being totally useless. My life would be very different today had I done so - I would actually have time to do other things!

There's a proper RDF from me for the URC-8550 in the RDF Files section that is intended for IR8.00, including setup code validation. You should find that rather better.

Thanks Graham, I was using one with the same name as yours, but it really had screwy values in it. It must have been the one from the official RDF.

When I downloaded
this rdf the upgrades looked a lot better.

That led me to look more closely at the upgrades and I saw that there are two DVD/1503 codes. The first one in the list has the wrong number of fixed data bits which is a symptom of the user not assigning the correct remote before copying the upgrade from KM or RM.

This really does seem to be a very corrupt IR file.

Its a really unusual remote. I sure am glad that it didn't stop you from your JP1 pursuits. You have made a huge contribution here.
