1. Device: Samsung DVD-1080P9
2. Type of device: DVD player
3. Year: 2009
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: URC-1056
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? No
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? No
9. Partially working setup code? Yes, DVD/0573
10. Learning remote question? n/a

For some reason the Pause button does not work properly - just gives the red circle with a line "can't do that" symbol on the screen. All the files I've seen seem to list Play/Pause as a single EFC of 234. Tried assigning that to DVD/Pause, but with the same effect. Hitting Play to start the DVD works fine, hitting Play while its already playing gives the red symbol.

Original remote has a pause that does work. If I hit the original remote Play while disc is playing, I also get the red symbol. Looks like this unit does not use a single Play/Pause code, but something unique for Pause.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It appears that this type of unit ususally uses Play to pause and play a recording. Since this isn't true for the 1080p9, you might want to try all the unused efc's while playing to see if you can find the proper efc. However, doing this you might stumble onto some potentially harmful system menu type functions, so be careful.

I would encourage you to re-read the "Read this first" Code Search sticky post, since although you used the template, you didn't really answer the questions about the File Section search as thoroughly as the instructions suggest. Be that as it may....

Looking at presumably the nearest similar upgrade in the file section, for the Samsung DVD-1080P7, one gets the following codes for the transport functions:

    Search Reverse 203 156
    Repeat 199 157
    Search Forward 201 158
    Skip Reverse 197 159
    Play / Pause 234 160
    Skip Forward 230 161
    Stop 232 162

Note that the OBCs are consecutive (not uncommon), so the discrete "Pause" could be expected to be close to that OBC range. The closest unused OBCs in that file are: 150, 163, 165, 167, 171, and 173.

The corresponding EFCs are: 073, 228, 231, 229, 100, and 103. Try them and see if any of them might work.

Thanks guys, I'll give those ideas a try and see what I can come up with.

My apologies, Capn Trips. It was the 1080P7 that I found (among others) that listed only the single code.

In case you ever get a cable, I found a match and recorded the IR signals with the JP1 tools to create the respective files.
