I had to replace my Pioneer receiver due to failure and went with a Sony STR-DG820. I found a .rdmu file for a STR-DG920 to use and modify. I was able to determine the Discrete On/Off codes and add them to the FUNCTIONS in RemoteMaster, copy to IR, transfer to the remote (a URC-9910 New with the Extender1).
I noticed that not all of the keys were functioning that were assigned under BUTTONS. After searching the forums I found that Button names followed by an * were not in the "keymap" for the remote. So I downloaded the latest RDF, Maps and Images and extracted them to the directories that contained the existing RDF, Maps and Images overwritting them. So I think I'm good on that.
I also under RM "help" to see if it was pointing to the correct directory for the RDFs and it is. I still have a significant number of buttons tagged with *. (e.g. Menu, Exit, Guide, Sleep, PIP, Move, Swap, TV, DVD (all the device keys), all "M", "L", Phantom keys. Basically half.
Any clues to what is going on? Probablly something easy I overlooked.
I keep banging away at it in the meantime.
Thanks ahead...

buttons with * are not in the "keymap" for the device that you have chosen. Internal to each remote is a list of keys that are "valid" for each device type (i.e. audio devices have list 1, TV devices list 2, etc) This allows for compact upgrades in the remote since they don't have to keep track of all of the various keys.
That said, you don't have to have a key in the keymap in order to use it for a device. It does make the amount of memory that you use in the remote smaller if it is in the devcie upgrade, but keys with * next to them can be used as keymoves.
You will notice that when you transfer your upgrade from KM or RM to IR, that the keys that are keymoves will be added to the keymove tab.
As for why yours aren't working.... the best thing to do is (as always) post your IR file to the diagnostic folder and have someone take a look at it. You're right that there is something that you may have overlooked.

Reagrding Previous Keymap URC-9910 Question
I resolved my issue...
I deleted all keymoves for the new Sony receiver in IR.
(There were several DEVICE BUTTON that were "=<N/A>"???)
Re-pasted the device and protocol upgrades.
Works!!!
Sorry for the false alarm.
