Hauppauge IR Receiver and 45 button remote

I found this upgrade posted by ToonGal in the SageTV forums. It's working great for me with one exception. Sometimes, when I push the "Guide" button it acts as if I pushed it twice. This happens seemingly at random around half of the time. (I also have a Hauppauge MediaMVP which uses the same remote and I do not seem to be experiencing this issue with it.)
I think this has something to do with it using the RC-5 protocol and it sending a couple different signals when the button is pressed. However, I am just getting my feet wet with this JP1 stuff and do not entirely know what this means nor how to fix it. I would be grateful for any help offered.

It looks like this remote uses OBC values 0-63. Currently the "Guide" button is assigned an OBC value of 27. Is it worth trying the remaining 21 or so unused OBC values to see if one of them works better? Or am I barking up the completely wrong tree?

The OBC for the GUIDE button is 27, so I doubt that any other OBC will work. I don't have any idea why you're getting the double-press. You could try learning that one button from the original remote, but there might be an issue with the learned button where it only works once in a row, not twice (a side effect of the RC5 protocol) but give it a try anyway.

I have the HVR-1250 and have the same 45 key silver remote. I use the file here:

Note that the file does not contain the "Guide" key and I found the advanced code for it being 142.

So far, all the buttons seem to be working for me.

Thanks for the replies. I tried learning the GUIDE button from the original remote but it seems to be just as bad (if not a little worse) just like you said it might be.

I also tried the other upgrade as suggested but I get the same results with that one as well. I believe the EFC in the upgrade I am using is also 142, so I guess this is expected.

One interesting thing that I noticed is that when I hold down the GUIDE button on the original remote it repeats until I let go. However, when I hold GUIDE down on my 8820 it does not repeat. Does this mean anything?

I loaded the Extender for this remote just to see what might happen. When using the Extender the GUIDE button behaves much better...I have not noticed any double presses since loading it and now the GUIDE button repeats like the original remote. Is it normal for the Extender to have this kind of effect?

Anyways, I am happy that the button works but I have much to learn about how to make this Extender do what I want.

The unextended 8820 is a little sluggish about recognizing a key press. The beta extender was even worse, or so my testers found. In an effort to speed things up, the extender shortens the hold time before processing the button. Perhaps the shorter hold time allows for a cleaner press. I don't know why this would improve the press and hold function though.
