Thanks so much for the 9960 extender. You da man!! I have one problem however. When I opened up the macro section of IR, I noticed that there is no entry in the "key name" column for CD or PVR devices. Instead, there is "channel where the CD key name should be and "theater".HT where the PVR device should be. I use the CD device for my X-10 commands. When I tried to edit the built in macro for choosing the CD ("channel) device, the editor allowed me to select CD but the key name column still showed "channel. When I returned to the macro sheet. I need to use the X_CD command in a macro for my x-10 controls but the "CD" part of that is not the X-10 device (as previously noted, it is "channel). Is this a glitch in the extender or did I somehow load the wrong RDF or is something else going on.

Thanks again for all you've done for us lowly 9960ers.
Dave, I think you are on an older version of IR that is not compatible with the latest RDF's like the one in the extender package. See what version of IR you have by doing a help/about in IR and if it is not 4.01 download it from the tools section (link below my name) and that will solve your problem.

Nils,

I was using an earlier version of IR. I upgraded and everything is fine now. By the way, do you know if a device multiplexer or toggler exists for this remote?

Heya,

I've uploaded my IR txt file (I think that's what you wanted...) to the diag file section. Filename is 'URC9960 No Motion Sensor.zip'

After using the extender for several hours, I have gotten it to 'crash' a few times. By that, I mean that the remote resets, as if the batteries were just put it. I am not ruling out that it is just loose batteries just yet, so I was wondering if you ever had this problem.

It hasn't happened enough for me to determine what causes it, but I remember at least 2 times the backlight stayed on, and when I went to switch to another device to get it to go off, it did the reset.

For now, should I use the new file you send me to test the motion sensor, or should I go back to the version I was using before?

Thanks.

The remote itself does not handle the device multiplexer or toggle officially. I will look into what it takes for the extender to do it but won't be able to work on it until the basics are stable. I also checked in the jp1 file area and could not find one that would work on this remote.

By the way, how is the backlight acting for you? is it going on and off like it should?

It happened to me once or twice and I related it to a bad macro but I won't rule out something in the code tripping. Was this with the new one I uploaded or the original?

Please try the new one I uploaded for you and see if it solves the backlight problem since I made a change in that area.

This was with the original. I did load the new one, but I didn't program anything into it. I left it alone just to test the backlight sensor. Still no luck, unfortunately.

I have been experimenting with the favorite channel feature, and it only works some of the time. I am going to test to see what causes it to glitch

If it didn't fix it it atleast helps me narrow down where the problem is.

Did the format look something like
  • 5;Enter{Skip};{Pause};1;5;Enter{Skip};{Pause}......etc.

If so, let me know if it works all the time before the first time the backlight times out.

Ninja

I uploaded another version to the jp1 Diagnostics file area called "URC9960 Extender Ninja.zip" (yes, same name different version). You should load atleast one of your devices into it so you can test keypress.

If this does not solve your backlight problem I am one step closer.

Aren't you glad you offered to test

Trying out the extender

Post by kenyarnall »

Nils,

Thanks for the work on this.

I've tried the extender out. I'm slowly getting used to things, and mostly have device selection sorted out.

One thing I definitely miss is the ability to have the HT screen selected. This is apparently currently impossible --- the O_XX commands select the device to animate and the screen to display, but there's no O_HT of course, so the HT screen is unavailable. Is there a way to get it back? The button selection there is perfect for my sat. viewing.

I've had it reboot on me once already. Could be weak batteries, but I don't think so.

Keny, for now, if you have any unused device button, you can set it up identical to how you would set up HT. The extender allows any button to asign things exactly like the HT button.

I think he will add O_HT later.

Nils, I am having fun helping you test it! I am going to try the new file.

My favs list doesnt use Enter{Skip} at all, because they are all 3 digit channel numbers. For example: 7;0;1;{Pause};7;0;3;{Pause} etc.

Update: I tried the new file. Keypresses still work, but now the backlight doesn't turn off at all. When I look closely, the backlight appears to be pulsating very quickly. Hope that helps =)

You can throw that last one away. I tested it when I got home and had the same problem. All it does is turn it off then right back on. The prior one is OK or atleast no worse than the original.

Yeah. I got that part figured out. What I can't get is the screen I want. I can get close with O_PVR, but that one leaves out the page up/down buttons which I use constantly. An O_HT command would get the button set I am looking for.

My mistake, I thought HT was the same as DVD for some reason.

Until I get HT back in you can try the AUX or CBL since they both have the page up/down. Plus you can scroll thru the screens. I will raise the priority as soon as I get the backlight problem and the periodic reset worked out. OK?

By the way, is the backlight working correctly for you with motion and button presses? I am pulling out my hair on that one since it works fine on mine but not on Ninja's

I have uploaded the Beta 2 Extender 1 for the URC9960 to the jp1 group file section URC9960 Extender Beta 2

I uploaded this as Beta 2 since I believe I have solved the reset problem and have added the Long KeyPress Protocol.

Ninja, may have cured your backlight problem but not sure
